    I love this statement.

Why can't everything in the realm of comics recognize the pattern of success that the DC Animated Universe has produced. Bruce Timm for Prez!!!!

Look at Batman: Brave and the Bold. Who would have thought???!!! Nearly every episode is something your kids will love, but tucked away in that is a "love letter" to you....the kid 20 plus years ago. It might be hard to do, but it can be done AND be done well.

Marvel is cranking out some enjoyable movies to DC only making some good Batman flicks (here's hoping Green Lantern kicks-arse and Captain Marvel finally gets made), but DC Animated is far and away the BEST thing to come out of comics........including the comics..........in the last 20 (maaaybeee 30 years).

Not really. They both have their strong-suits.

I honestly didn't understand the distinction until I was about 10 and the stuff I still have from back then is a bit of a mix, but the bulk of it is Marvel. Marvel's covers were compelling enough to make me take a chance on just about anything they produced....for an issue or two. When it came to DC, I stuck to the main stuff...Supes, Bats, JLA. Following that line of reasoning, my DC stuff is from only a few titles, but any one of those titles would make a bigger stack than any one of my Marvel titles except Marvel Team-Up. (Had All-Star Squadron made it to Issue #151, the story would be different)

I have just now gotten back into reading comics and they are overwhelmingly DC. Why? I guess DC does a better job, now, of doing what Marvel did then (for me) and Marvel....I just can't figure that stuff out. I just can't get into anything that Marvel is putting out now. The only thing I have bought from Marvel is the Kid Colt (One Shot) that came out this Summer, some of the 70th Anniversary stuff, and the Avenger reprints. None of that is new. They simply do not seem to have the machine behind them, nor do they seem to have the artists and writers that work for DC. (however, Dark Horse has a mini-run of Groo...is that technically Marvel? If so, I'm "buying Marvel" for that run.)

I'll sum it up with this: Marvel did Zombies first, but they never did anything as cool as Blackest Night (and for that matter, neither has DC, heretofore). I laughed at Marvel's Zombies.....I have bought every Blackest Night book I could get my hands on....including the prelude stuff and that accounts for somewhere close to 50 books with about 30 to go.

Add to that Tiny Titans, Batman: Brave and the Bold, Billy Batson, Jonah Hex, Flash: Rebirth and DC takes the cake for now.

It started for me so long ago. I have pictures I drew of Batman when I was 3. He was ALWAYS my favorite. Superfriends had all my favorites on it. Hawkman, Green Arrow....It's always been DC for me.

I can say this: MArvel defines their characters to the nth degree. Just read a MArvel Universe mag. Origin, key moments, scientific explanations and strength level clearly defined. Now go read a DC WHo's Who. Superman is REALLY strong. He has heat vision. Where Marvel would tell you how his heat vision works, how far he can be away to melt a 2" piece of metal, how the sun charges his powers.....Who's Who simply says essentially "because". Marvel has it all over DC in some ways, this being key for myself personally. I've read my Marvel Universe mags over and over and over. Who's Who, boring.

That said, DC was and always will be my fave. I about lost my mind when JLU debuted. What a masterpiece! I get excited about the DC guys. Not so much with the Marvel crew eventhough I've loved the Xmen and Wolvie since I was a kid. The DCUC figures are highly coveted by myself. I soooo want Hawkman and GA and Shazam. I about crapped my pants when I saw the pix of them. Never once had that reaction with any Marvel character.

I love old SPidey stories too. Just don't feel a NEED for Marvel, it's not that way with DC. I LOVE those characters.

I guess it all goes back to my childhood. Saturday mornings with a big bowl of HOneycomb and Mego BAtman and SUperfriends.

    DC...Why? Two words...."Adam West"

It was Adam West as Batman that got me interested in reading comic books about this character. All of the comic I originally started reading some 37 (?!) years ago were influenced by characters I saw on TV: Batman, Casper and Archie.

Interest in the Batman TV show and comics made me have a cross-over interest in the Mego figures. The Megos I had as a kid were Batman, Robin, Joker, Riddler, Penguin and Catwoman as well as Superman and Aquaman (inspired by the Filmation cartoons I used to watch). Not a Marvel in the bunch.

I didn't really get in to Marvel until around '75 or so...All of those Fireside and Pocket Book paperbacks were a big influence. And then came the X-Men in 5th grade....Soon, I was buying tons of Marvel (a 3-pack for a buck). DC took a back seat for a while because while the Marvel 3-packs looked like regular Marvel comics, the DC 3-packs always had this "Whitman" label. You'd be embarassed if you were caught reading those.

Right now I probably buy 70% DC and 30% Marvel, but for a while there it was 90/10.
I also like that I can get a LOT of retro DC merchandise but Marvel tends to give their stuff a more modern look. DC is like Coca-Cola, old school die-hard brand....while Marvel is like Pepsi, always the choice of the new generation. I also prefer Coke over Pepsi in case anyone is wondering....

The Marvel characters have great costumes and cool powers but way, way, WAY too much angst, whining and self pity. The DC heroes always seemed more heroic and less self absorbed to me. At least that's how it was when I was reading comics as a kid.

This is tough because everyone has their favorites.

I think traditionally I've been more of a Marvel guy, but I love a fair amount of DC as well. Marvel got to a lot of people because of Stan Lee's ability to make Marvel characters more human and to allow the fans to feel like they were part of a family. Marvel seemed to interact in the real world and guys like Spiderman were nicknamed Spidey. It made them seem less like superheroes and guys you could know or be.

DC has always been so much more fantasy. For a while DC was much less real and thus their comics seemed very hokey. Juxtaposed with Marvel they seemed almost kiddie and tame.

Now that's not the case with DC, I'd say they're probably worse than Marvel in the gritty nature.

My main issue with the moden DC universe is that they've tried too hard to make it all make sense. They want things to relate today to what happened 40 years ago, but they've had a dozen restarts and reboots since then. Rather than just rebooting characters, they started the whole Infinite Earths nonsense andit's just too darn confusing. It's almost impossible to pick up any DC comic not named Batman or Superman and have any idea what the heck is going on. Who is the Flash? Could be anyone, there's been several. Who is the Green Lantern? Who is Hawkman? So on and so fourth.

Marvel got stupid in the mid 90's with a lot of the same issues. Reboots, reimaginings, clones, skrulls, it got very tangled as well so they're not innocent either. Still they seemed to do it less than DC because at least they weren't still trying to untie 25 year old knots.

DC would be greatif it was half as good as the DC Animated Universe. When DC properties are treated correctly, as they have been in the DCAU, they're incredible. Unfortunately the comics aren't always up to that level.

I like both, I don't really have a favorite at the end of the day, but I find that modern DC is much less approachable because of all the confusion whereas modern Marvel you can usually get up to speed in an issue or two.

Been a Batman fan since I was a kid, something about him was so appealing to me. Plus he has some seriously cool villains like the Joker and Two-Face.
Plus Marvel seems to copy DC quite a lot

Namor didn't wear pants because he has little wings on his ankles. Duh! How else could he swim so deep in the ocean without ankle wings? (couldn't he fly with them, too?)

Oddly, I feel the same about Captain America and Spider-Man but not the entire Marvel universe.

    The WGSH probably didn't hurt.
Campy and not only that but older and "the original" although, not really, Tarzan, The Phantom and others predate them but still, Marvels are clear copies. I mean look at spidey. He's a cross between both Super and Batman.
I really liked Spidey as a kid but I got frustrated when I realized that all those villians he had to fight that kept coming had power just as great as his. That was a very frustrating thought to me as a kid. I guess the cops and military should just pack it up and go home and go to bed. Marvels were bigger and better but to me, with DC it seemed that less was more, if you know what I mean.

DC has always built their universe on tradition, iconic and symbolic characters and idealistic undertones. Superman, Batman, Green Lantern and Wonder Woman all represent a specific group of people. They are the very definition of those groups. The optimists, the pessimists the dreamers, the free thinkers and the power of women. All are present and are featured as the top characters. DC is much better at creating legacies and legends, and is by far my comic company of choice. Simply a personal choice.

Marvel relies on trends, emotions and the human element. They will never have the iconic Superman type character in their universe as he wouldn't fit. The main characters are full of emotion, regret, anger, death, paranoia and guilt. This is where DC falls short. The Marvel Universe deals with a wide variety of topics that are pertinent to the human condition, and those are generally dark, moody and a bit cathartic. If Batman starts to feel depressed, we call for the writer to be fired. If Captain America feels down, it's not only welcomed but expected.

I have no idea if I made any sense. Think of it like this...If Superman walks into a restaurant everyone's jaw drops and the respect factor is magnified ten fold. He's been built up for so long they have no choice. If Spider-Man walks into the same place, people roll their eyes and call him a menace or they just politely seat him in a booth. That represents more real-world reaction that Supes.

I probably made zero sense with that.
It makes perfect sense to me. But, I agree with Megospidey (His initials are DC but he likes Marvel more!)

    Because they Rule.

Seriously,.. I did answer the Question.

I have been reading comic for the Better part of 25 yrs.
I read a ton More DC..., why ? BECAUSE They have Batman Superman and Green Lantern. I think that was Enough of the Answer to the Question..., they are not Owned by Marvel, are they ?. They do Not regularly apear in Marvel do they ?
I have never totally ever liked any one Character of Marvel, or thier Stories to collect an ArseLoad of a particular Series,.. or a yrs on End Subscription. After a While they become Un-interesting ... , I look at what I buy today,..., probably only 5 Books from Marvel a Month ..., as to atleast 12 DC's .. , not counting Blackest Night either.

& For the record ... I think the Idea of Spider-man is cool ..., I like his suit... But I can never take the guy seriously because He lives With his Aunt, and has got to be the Most *****-whipped character ever invented. Action scene's..., cool stuff, back story,.. Lame Arse.
