DC Vs. Marvel

Why do you like DC characters more than Marvel characters? Everybody's opinion is wanted so please comment.

I don't know, I think it probably has to do with the reason I thought they were "lame" as a teenager. They're something very appealing and wonderful about their design and their back story. To a child, they're so bright and appealing and to an adult well they still kind of inoke that feeling.

Oddly, I feel the same about Captain America and Spider-Man but not the entire Marvel universe.

The WGSH probably didn't hurt.

Wow. What a question. I'll try to summarize my feelings on the matter.

DC has always built their universe on tradition, iconic and symbolic characters and idealistic undertones. Superman, Batman, Green Lantern and Wonder Woman all represent a specific group of people. They are the very definition of those groups. The optimists, the pessimists the dreamers, the free thinkers and the power of women. All are present and are featured as the top characters. DC is much better at creating legacies and legends, and is by far my comic company of choice. Simply a personal choice.

Marvel relies on trends, emotions and the human element. They will never have the iconic Superman type character in their universe as he wouldn't fit. The main characters are full of emotion, regret, anger, death, paranoia and guilt. This is where DC falls short. The Marvel Universe deals with a wide variety of topics that are pertinent to the human condition, and those are generally dark, moody and a bit cathartic. If Batman starts to feel depressed, we call for the writer to be fired. If Captain America feels down, it's not only welcomed but expected.

I have no idea if I made any sense. Think of it like this...If Superman walks into a restaurant everyone's jaw drops and the respect factor is magnified ten fold. He's been built up for so long they have no choice. If Spider-Man walks into the same place, people roll their eyes and call him a menace or they just politely seat him in a booth. That represents more real-world reaction that Supes.

I probably made zero sense with that.

^^ That makes perfect sense to me Scott. And that is why I identify with Marvel characters over DC. The human-ness is what draws me to the Marvel universe. I just identify with those characters and their struggles...they mirror my life in a lot of ways.

I have been reading comic for the Better part of 25 yrs.
I read a ton More DC..., why ? BECAUSE They have Batman Superman and Green Lantern. I think that was Enough of the Answer to the Question..., they are not Owned by Marvel, are they ?. They do Not regularly apear in Marvel do they ?
I have never totally ever liked any one Character of Marvel, or thier Stories to collect an ArseLoad of a particular Series,.. or a yrs on End Subscription. After a While they become Un-interesting ... , I look at what I buy today,..., probably only 5 Books from Marvel a Month ..., as to atleast 12 DC's .. , not counting Blackest Night either.

& For the record ... I think the Idea of Spider-man is cool ..., I like his suit... But I can never take the guy seriously because He lives With his Aunt, and has got to be the Most *****-whipped character ever invented. Action scene's..., cool stuff, back story,.. Lame Arse.

It makes perfect sense to me. But, I agree with Megospidey (His initials are DC but he likes Marvel more!)

Campy and not only that but older and "the original" although, not really, Tarzan, The Phantom and others predate them but still, Marvels are clear copies. I mean look at spidey. He's a cross between both Super and Batman.
I really liked Spidey as a kid but I got frustrated when I realized that all those villians he had to fight that kept coming had power just as great as his. That was a very frustrating thought to me as a kid. I guess the cops and military should just pack it up and go home and go to bed. Marvels were bigger and better but to me, with DC it seemed that less was more, if you know what I mean.

Namor didn't wear pants because he has little wings on his ankles. Duh! How else could he swim so deep in the ocean without ankle wings? (couldn't he fly with them, too?)

DC has it's good guys vs bad guys.. Marvel always blurs the lines.. the X-men are heroes but hated, Spidey is a great hero to New York but the Bugle vilifies him. too me as much as I read marvel books their universe is depressing..

Been a Batman fan since I was a kid, something about him was so appealing to me. Plus he has some seriously cool villains like the Joker and Two-Face.
Plus Marvel seems to copy DC quite a lot

This is tough because everyone has their favorites.

I think traditionally I've been more of a Marvel guy, but I love a fair amount of DC as well. Marvel got to a lot of people because of Stan Lee's ability to make Marvel characters more human and to allow the fans to feel like they were part of a family. Marvel seemed to interact in the real world and guys like Spiderman were nicknamed Spidey. It made them seem less like superheroes and guys you could know or be.

DC has always been so much more fantasy. For a while DC was much less real and thus their comics seemed very hokey. Juxtaposed with Marvel they seemed almost kiddie and tame.

Now that's not the case with DC, I'd say they're probably worse than Marvel in the gritty nature.

My main issue with the moden DC universe is that they've tried too hard to make it all make sense. They want things to relate today to what happened 40 years ago, but they've had a dozen restarts and reboots since then. Rather than just rebooting characters, they started the whole Infinite Earths nonsense andit's just too darn confusing. It's almost impossible to pick up any DC comic not named Batman or Superman and have any idea what the heck is going on. Who is the Flash? Could be anyone, there's been several. Who is the Green Lantern? Who is Hawkman? So on and so fourth.

Marvel got stupid in the mid 90's with a lot of the same issues. Reboots, reimaginings, clones, skrulls, it got very tangled as well so they're not innocent either. Still they seemed to do it less than DC because at least they weren't still trying to untie 25 year old knots.

DC would be greatif it was half as good as the DC Animated Universe. When DC properties are treated correctly, as they have been in the DCAU, they're incredible. Unfortunately the comics aren't always up to that level.

I like both, I don't really have a favorite at the end of the day, but I find that modern DC is much less approachable because of all the confusion whereas modern Marvel you can usually get up to speed in an issue or two.

as a whole I like Marvel better but my to faves are Batman and superman, weird huh?
