Ive been reading your posts Meule, and I completly agree with everything u have said, we have all said we dislike the design, but the sad thing is, there is absolutly nothing I like about it. There is nothing in this card that shouts, wow thats cool, its just an awfull mish mash, of everything thing that is bad design.

Google ANYTHING and porn comes up.
I've seen some comments on the price of the figures, and I wish they were cheaper, but in reality they are comparable to the other things out there. Heck, the Buzz Lightyear figures and some Barbies are $50If my kid's wish list had to choose between Toy Story and Retro-Action I'd go with the $20 figure. It is all relative.
It's all good!Comment

Amen to that.
I haven't commented at all on these new WGSH figures since the week it was announced, I was solidly against them then on the assumption that they would be near-exact repros along the lines of Trek and Apes. As more and more info has come to light I've been less and less concerned.
The figures and packaging are now far enough removed from the originals that they won't / can't be used to scam collectors, so I guess to me it's good news!

I am with hobub 100% on this statement when you are referring to differences in figures. Especially in light of the fact that Mattel will be producing figures that already exist in the Mego line - Supes and GA to date. With respect to the card - I mentioned in another thread I wasn't crazy about the color choice - but other than that no major complaints. Does the Toyroom's card look better - in my opinion yes - but I'm still going to support this line and purchase the figures despite any concerns/complaints about the packaging. Unfortunately, Mego went bankrupt many years ago - we were never going to get Megos here. With some hard work from Doc/EMCE and all involved - Mattel got interested in giving this line a shot and we have a chance to get a solid GL, Sinsetro and Lex Luthor figure in the Spring - that is comparable to our other WGSH figures. That is a good thing in my opinion. Will kids jump at these figures - that remains to be seen. Two of my girls put "Megos" on their Christmas list and if GA showed up I think they would be very happy - happier still if some Super Gals are down the line. With respect to the price point - this is pretty close to what I pay for my kids' Barbies - and don't get me started on what Smurfs and My little pet shop costs, as well as DVDs, Wii games, etc.Comment

I have some opinions on this, but after nine pages of discussion I can't stand to read, I'm pretty sure it's been expressed somewhere and by someone more articulate and a better typist than I, so put me down on their side. This profile is no longer active.Comment

I personally think the packaging is going to look great . . . in my trash can. I don't give a rat's arse about the packaging. I'm going to open up that mofo and play with it. The whole time, I'm going to have the biggest, goofiest grin on my face.Comment

I'll buy these just because DocMego deserves our support. If not for him, we wouldn't have squat for repro parts to do customs and I don't think any of us want to see the guy get so burned and disgusted by this ordeal he bags the whole process.
That being said...Mego was successful because the price was low during hard times. What costs $3 today only cost .81 cents in '76. So adjusted for inflation, a Mego would sell at $11. So going the opposite direction in just as an uncertain economy means this first run is a really big test to see how big of an audience exists. I wouldn't expect these to clog the shelves. Scarcity would benefit the line by driving up secondary market sales. If a buy at $18 equals a $36 sale on Ebay, they'll move and Mattel will go forward. Otherwise, you're banking on parents to drop $20 on one figure when they can buy three small figures or a pack for the same.
I doubt TRU will carry as many of these as they did of Famous Covers. IIRC, figure sales have dropped since the 90's. I'm sure some people here no more than I about this.Comment
