    Identifying Original Andorian Glove

I need some help with this, I have an original mego Andorian, it was missing the left glove so I put a repro emce diamond select glove on it until I could find an original. After years of looking, I finally found an ebay auction selling an original left glove. The seller took my best offer for $45, I got the glove but it’s very hard for me to tell whether it’s original or repro?

Here are some pics, first pic the glove on the left is a darker faded brown, this is the original that came with the figure.

The glove on the outstretched arm is the one I got from ebay, the glove next to it on the paper towel is the reproduction one I had been using. The last picture is a picture of the glove I got from ebay auction.

I questioned the ebay seller who runs a toy store out of Memphis and he spoke with his partner who he said is a Mego expert and said that the glove was an original because of the little wear pin hole marks on the glove and was a more reddish brown and not a darker brown like the reproduction.

The seller has 100% positive feedback and judging from the second picture the glove the figure is wearing does look more reddish brown and not the darker brown glove next to it on the right.

In the first pick the original brown faded glove on the left is different from the supposed reddish brown glove on the right the figure is wearing, but I’m told that’s also an original glove. I know the glove sitting on the paper towel is a repro, it’s just a bit difficult for me to determine.

So my question is, the gloves the figure is wearing, are they both original or just the darker brown glove on the left?
I tend to believe the glove on the right outstretched hand is also a original, it’s just a different color.

I’m guessing the original Andorians from back in the day, had different shades of brown gloves and maybe the one pictured, the gloves came from two different figures, but are both original.

I wanted to ask if anyone here can verify the authenticity of the gloves or at least the glove the figure is wearing on the right. Thanks I always appreciate any help.

Hope all is well !! It is difficult to tell from the pics. Maybe take a really good look at the emce - I know Paul made some minor changes to make it discernible from an original. See if you think it was possibly an emce that was altered to look like an original. I think you paid a good amount to have the original.

I did contact Paul (Dr. Mego) and sent close up pictures of the gloves, and he confirmed the glove I got from the ebay seller was in fact an original. I agree I might have paid a bit more than I should have to get the glove, but I’ve been looking for the Andorian original left glove for almost 20 years, I pretty much gave up looking for one and then to my shocking surprise, I found one on ebay by accident.

My feeling is, an original mego action figure is not completely original, unless all parts, clothing and accessories are original pieces, especially when it comes to my Star Trek figures.

Usually you can tell unmarked repros by the thicker casting, flashing from the mold, and glossier finish.

My vintage Andorian gloves--I have two pair--are thinner than Emce, less opaque than vintage, and slightly more reddish.

WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.

Yes, the glove I got from the ebay seller is slightly more reddish than the emce one on the paper towel, and Paul did tell me that the DST ones have a glossy coat like the glove on the paper towel.

The darker brown glove on the other hand I know is original, because I got the figure a couple of years before DST released any figures. I just thought it odd that even though both gloves are original, the color shades are different.

I wonder if mego Andorians from back in the 70’s, had different shades of brown gloves and even boots, maybe some had darker brown gloves and some were made with reddish brown gloves from the factory?

What I think is odd is that mego gave Andorians gloves in the first place, on the tv show, Andorians didn’t wear gloves, it would have been a cost saver for mego to leave the blue hands bare, which would had been more accurate to the character.
