Uncle Mikey has always been a source of strength and kindness in our family, but this year has brought unimaginable challenges. He has become almost totally disabled, and I have stepped in as his full-time caretaker. Since the end of last year, I have been out of work, dedicating all my time to making sure he is safe and cared for.
This year alone, Uncle Mikey has been hospitalized at least five times, including one stay that lasted three months. He can barely walk now and lives entirely on our first floor, where I’ve set up a bed and his oxygen. I handle all his personal care, medical appointments, meals, laundry, and more. Despite my best efforts, our savings have been wiped out, and our cable, phone, and internet have already been shut off. We have applied for every assistance program we can find, but it’s not enough.
We are now facing the real possibility of eviction. Anything we raise will go directly toward keeping us afloat—covering Uncle Mikey’s personal care, keeping the utilities on, and making sure he can stay at home with the support he needs. I am deeply grateful to everyone who reads this. Please help if you can, and share our story with anyone who might be able to help. God bless you all.
