Did it really sell for this much?

I'm new to the history of Mego and I've just started to really get into it. But did a Mego Elastic Batman really sell for over 15,000 dollars in 2006?? Do those Elastic figures really go for that much?

    Hi and Welcome,

Regardless of whether it did or not, the down turn in the world economy would have affected value/prices or potential buyers drastically.

Welcome aboard. $15K isn't the highest price ever paid for a Mego, but others can elaborate more on that, if they want to

I remember that auction. It's the highest I've ever seen paid for a Mego on ebay. Really a beautiful Mint in Mint box example. If you consider the cross-genre appeal of Batman, Stretch Armstrong and Mego combined with Extreme Rarity, the final price isn't too unbelievable.

The guy that bought it likes to inflate the prices of these and Stretch Armstrong's quite a bit. If he buys something for say $500, he immediately says it's worth $4000. it's all pretty ridiculous.
Whether or not he paid this much, it wasn't a great investment and I'm sure he will lose thousands in the long run.

Yeah, if I remember correctly, it was a bidding war between him and some other guy. No one else is nuts enought to pay anywhere near that much for such an item, so yeah, if he ever does sell it he will most likely take a huge loss.

Actually the last one only went for $1500 IIRC. There was only one bid, the winner was a high profile Batman collector in the States. Funnily enough he once told me he had no interest in MEGOs!

                        Cheers,

I still don't see the appeal of these Elastic figures to command that dollar amount.....

I'm with you. I find them goofy freaks of the toy world lol.

what was up with the strech toys to start with ... were they made for violent kids who liked to pull their toys apart? Child with anger issues? Last thing I thought to do with my action figures were to see how far I could pull their limbs. and the commercials for them always seems to show kids in pain or extream anger when "streching" those toys.

Buy a toy for thousands of dollars, one day he may burst open and leak out goo that destroys his box and your toy shelf. What a deal!
