    Original Mego Cards Vs. Repro?

    Hello,

I'm the Mego noobie on the block and would like some help. I had all kinds of Mego dolls when I was a kid and would like to replace some of them now as an adult kid. Obviously, there are a fantastic amount of great pictures on the Mego Museum of all the characters and their respective packaging, but I would like to know if there are any sure fire methods or things to look for when replacing my collection; original packaging vs reproduction? I would really like to replace some of my collection, but like any collector I want the original stuff and I don't want to be ripped off by someone on Ebay. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm looking to replace Mego Batman, Robin, Superman, Shazam, Spiderman and Captain America.

    Thanks for the help,

    Mego Kid 17

Welcome aboard, reproductions for the most part are pretty easy to spot, we tend to point out the real obvious scammers but the biggest tip I have are punch holes, most MOC repros gloss over that.

I'm sure others will have pointers for you, especially the guys who make these sorts of things.

Welcome to the Mego museum, its not just the reproduction packaging that you have to look out for. I personally think its the reproduction parts that are far trickier to establish when looking at ebay auctions with poor pictures. The boxes/cards in comparison are far easier to spot.

eww yeah, parts are a different issue but like Thomas says, plenty of folks here will offer their opinion on "real vs repro" when it comes to auctions.

Welcome! I'm awful at being able to tell repro parts from original, but check the Museum itself. It has a lot of cool comparisons. Also, always ask questions if you have a doubt on ebay. The honest sellers on ebay are usually very happy to respond to any questions.
            It's all good!

I should get a vicious beating from Dave for not mentioning accessory check sooner, this is an invaluable tool when trying to "spot the repro"

Also, you can pick up stuff here on the Marketplace. I don't personally have what you're looking for, but I'm sure there are plenty of people here who do. You can really find great deals, but honestly, the best part about buying something here is that 99% of the people on here are really just collectors (not dealers) who are selling off pieces when they upgrade their collection. You can get detailed pictures from most guys on bigger dollar items and people really will give you detailed descriptions about flaws. In addition, most of the guys here can spot the repro parts and packages pretty fast, so you won't have to worry much about that. Just post what you're looking for in a thread at the marketplace and maybe someone has it.
