The Mego Red Son Superman I ordered from Amazon just arrived.
Wow. Not only does he have a Hammer and Sickle as his chest logo, but the figure comes with actual Hammer and Sickle accessories that he can hold in each hand, as well! Other than my Mego Van Helsing with two candlesticks, off-hand I can't remember any other modern Mego figure I've bought that came with two accessories.
As I mentioned above, I'm only vaguely familiar with the Superman Red Son concept and never read the actual comic books. But this figure is so great. If I have any quibble with it at all, it's probably that where the cape attaches to his shoulders looks a little weak/vulnerable, and the hammer and sickle accessories are kind of 'rubbery'.
But for $6.56 + sales tax (and free delivery), it is phenomenal. I would encourage anyone with access to this Amazon Prime Deal who doesn't already have this figure and who has a spare $7 to seriously consider buying this.
I just displayed this figure on a bookshelf, holding the hammer and sickle in front of himself, paralleling his Soviet-evocative chest symbol. Such an awesome 1980s-era, Cold War fever dream: Superman is a Soviet communist!
In posing him, I did also note that his hands are, I think, a little bit small. But man, for $7, this figure is amazing. May Day isn't really 'a thing' where I live in California. That head sculpt is great! I *may* be adding some gray to the temples and replacing the head on the upcoming Kingdom Come Superman if the scale ends up being off on it.Comment
