I bought one of those S bodies, intending to give it to my Black Adam, whose elastic is seriously stretched out. So how do I remove his head without breaking anything? My vintage Megos have nice squishy heads, easy to get off. Not so Black Adam: his head is hard as adamantium, to mix a metaphor. The stamina of Shu, I guess.

Are you talking the new Mego's Black Adam, Mattel's Black Adam, or FTC's Black Adam? The "elastic is seriously stretched out" makes it sound like the Mattel, but I don't want to assume.
Dunking in a mug of piping hot water is going to be part of the plan either way... but it is a little different if you are dealing with an "innie" or an "outie" neck plug... -

Sometime back I removed a Mattel Lex Luthor head to transfer to an original mego body. I did the piping hot water trick and it softened it up fine and I was able to remove it with a little bit of muscle.
I don’t think FTC ever had a Black Adam? not that I can remember.Comment

Sorry, I missed your reply that this was Mattel. Important note! The Mattel neck plug has like a little plastic disc doodad that it is glued to. Soaking it is probably enough to weaken the glue and it just falls off. But if not, you will want to pry off that plastic disc before you try to pull the head off, or else you will rip the neck plug.
Honestly, a fair number of folks just split the torso and pulled the head off to be safe. If you don't plan on using the body again, it is the most foolproof method.Comment

Here is the Mattel Aquaman. You can see some residue on the end of the neck plug. Before I removed if, there was like a hard plastic disc (like a bingo chip) glued to the bottom. Once the head softens in the hot water, it will be malleable enough that you can stick something down the neck hole to pry it off.
The other option, the “go in through the body” option, is unfortunately not reversible. Those Mattel bodies are so floppy, though, that some people are fine with making the sacrifice.Comment
