    Mego Meet 2025?

Convention season is now in full swing but I haven't seen or heard anything about Mego Meet 2025. Will it be happening this year?

I thought they announced, a while back, plans to hold it in Chicago (Skokie?).

If it was, there isn't any information available about it.

          Skokie was many moons ago.

If it happens this year, I hope that it's not the same weekend as TerrifiCon again.

The Mego Meet is a significant financial investment for us and involves a great deal of risk, including securing the right venues, insurance, and promotional funds, among other hidden costs.

All of that comes from Steve and me; we've never had a sponsorship from Mego or anyone else.

All profits go back to the Museum bandwidth (i pay my own admission every year) but neither of us can afford to lose that seed money, so we've got to be cautious.

                  Thanks for understanding.

I have a friend that runs two big conventions in CT every year, so I understand the investment and consequences. I was just curious if there was going to be a Meet this year because convention season is already in full swing and, as an attendee, I have to budget (admission, spending money) what shows to go.

Brian and I put time in on Mego Meet nearly every week. A real event at a decent venue costs thousands more than it did pre-Covid. Our old venue has changed hands and isn't interested in events like ours now. To put it simply I have not yet found a suitable location where the numbers work. That's what's holding us back. I can do everything else in my sleep at this point, as can Brian. The dead ends have been frustrating.

I understand; we've had some stops and starts with venues, which were discouraging, along with other issues and salacious rumours that I won't discuss publicly, but it all truly hindered our enthusiasm.

The Mego Meet engine is fuelled by enthusiasm, so that's been an ongoing conversation between Steve and me.

Many people use "we" when referring to MegoMeet, like they were involved, but they mainly attended and didn't know or care how it was financed. It shouldn't be a secret; it's the truth, we gamble on Mego Meet, and the house has occasionally lost.

I've already committed financially to the (first) exclusive, made plans for freebies and coordinated other things with the Lincoln Monsters guys.

It's not a bad thing to have people ask for it, that's only a positive in my eyes, so this isn't complaining. I want to insure that everyone is aware that our path has been rocky and, sadly, divisive since the COVID-19 pandemic.

Reading this from Ireland, with a stash of Mego stuff stored in my old house in North Carolina, I can only hope the math works out for another gathering sometime...and that I have the funds to travel back and trade where and whenever you land. Best of luck, friends.
