    Toy Show Recap

Set up for my first time in nearly a decade at the Toronto show, been doing this show since i was a teen and had a good time. I thought I took more photos but many of them didn't come out, here is a little recap.

It doesn't always pay to get there early, there is really nothing to do except set up.

A little shameless self promotion never hurt, this crowd had little interest in DVDs however.

My boothmate scored the Wonder Woman set that night, seeing as my set has a broken plane, I eventually took it off his hands.

My son was my paid "helper" for the evening, I've never seen a person get so much out of twenty bucks.

    Cool vintage glasses

    Mego sighting

During the first four hours our booth became waaaay too crowded, Phil and I ended up in the aisle for much of the day, by late afternoon we moved back in.

By late afternoon, boredom sets in a little, after fighting with the Intruder I created "Obamula".

Mark Huckabone brought some of the best Mego stuff at the show and it quickly disappeared. During the evening he mentioned all the stuff he had brought, even though we were across from each other, I never saw much of it.

All in all, a good show, I made a few bucks, had a lot of fun and saw some familiar and new faces. My coolest grab this weekend was this:

A display of rubber monsters, most of them are movie inspired.

Cool beans, aren't those Deiner (sp?) monsters? How much did you end up paying for the lot?

Thanks for the pics and report Brian. My, Obama looks mighty happy with the attention from his new mate.

They are Deiner, the seller had four of these displays at $30 each. I got a sealed one. Two people asked me where I got it (which was weird as I kind of threw it under my table) and I told them.

When I went back, they had sold out.

Great report Brian, I love looking at this kind of stuff!

That alien monster display is awesome by the way, quite a steal too I would imagine, although I've never seen one for sale myself. The design looks to be a rip-off of Imperial's Poopatrooper or Super Ball counter top displays, though it could just as easily be the other way round I suppose.

The Star Wars AT-AT and Shuttle at $120 is not a bad deal either!

You mentioned the evening, is it a one day show? Pretty much all of our shows start at 9am and end about 3pm on Sundays, I'd be interested in how successful a night shift is?

          Cheers!

Night shift is just dealer set up, about half of the dealers attend and usually just mill around looking for deals. It can be lucrative, just not so much for me.

That Deiner display is one hell of a score. I would love to have that. Congrats!

Very awesome Brian! Nice to see Plaid Stallions getting promoted too! I just plugged your site in an interview I did for secretidentity.com! It should be podcast Wednesday. Good to see you had a good time!

I like the placement of the figures in the PlaidStallions poster. Baron Karza is very dramatic in the center. He could almost stand alone.

Brian, have you ever had someone walk away with something during one of these shows? Do you make a point of keeping a close eye on people and your stuff, especially when your booth gets crowded?

I've just always wondered if shoplifters are any sort of problem at these shows.

I know other guys have mentioned it to me but I have never had a problem with the public, dealers are another thing. I'm a little cautious when packing up because there are a couple of real jerks out there who've swiped stuff from me.

It was a cool show and very cool to finally meet you Brian. Thanks for the nice deal on the Apes stuff. And thanks for the stickers for my son (who showed little interest in them at the time, but boy did he want to play with them when we got home later. Big surprise!).

I'm an idiot, it didn't hit me that your friend Mark was Mr. Huckabone. He must have gotten rid of all the Megos by the time I got there. And I didn't recognize him anywhere as I only met him once about 18 years ago, so I was blissfully ignorant.

I saw quite a bit of vintage stuff there, but unfortunately not too much that I was particularly looking for. Looked like it was a good turnout though, and we had fun.
