Power-Con was never guaranteed for us in 2024. I liked Powercon and am grateful for the experience; so much good came of it, but we were always going to have this conversation. A lot of PCMM worked, and some of it didn't, but the pressure due to the stakes of it all also the weird and entirely unwelcome "conspiracy" backlash is something I hadn't counted on.

There was a “conspiracy”? Man, I miss everything.

I had a blast at the PCMM, I’m looking forward to the next one!

              oof, wonder why.
              anyway, honest mistake.

I hope we get a Meet this year. The mariott was a good venue IMO. If it happens I'll be there.

You missed something very, very dumb and lacked self-awareness/emotional maturity. The bottom line was Steve and I were evil profiteers "Stealing" the thing we put on for over a decade. It's fascinating to hear the "insider" take from people we don't communicate with, but that's the joy of the Parasocial relationship!

The only "profit" we had was seeing our friends and having a great time. The Museum gets propped up by us, not the other way around.

I believe it was a super-aggressive expansion for 2023, at least, that is what I gleaned in conversations. While the show was successful, I got the vibe they expected double-digit growth this year. Everybody seemed to bring it this year, I mean, McFarlane was handing out free toys. Val put on an amazing show and worked his butt off.

I do kind of wonder if the competing con made downtown travel a hassle. I don't know Columbus well.

It's really not for me to conjecture, Mego Meet is not run in the same manner, we're 1/2 lodge meeting,.

Oh brother. Well, thank you, I’m ok with missing that.

Oh, I wish I had; the best advice my dad ever gave me was, "Not all voices need to be heard." My neurodivergent brain sometimes needs to lean on that crutch.

PS I don't regret much of Mego Meet 2023, save for the border troubles and a few people who sadly couldn't make it.

Otherwise, it was a positive experience, and I'm glad I went. We will continue doing exactly what we want and passionately rebuke BS hearsay. We know we're in this for the right reasons.

My only regret with Mego Meet 2023 was that my stay was limited due to budgetary reasons (being unemployed). It was great seeing everyone I got to speak to and spend time with. Power Con was a nice addition, as I'm interested in much of what they were selling and displaying, but I'm in for the Meet if you just have it at an all-night Steak N' Shake. It's about the people. And THOSE other people can just go be miserable somewhere else. Like at a Denny's, or something.

Yeah, that may be too cruel and inhumane, even for their like.

If I recall, that weekend we also had a huge country concert in the OSU stadium. The town was definitely busy but I feel like the issues were due to different competition and some shortcomings with Power Con.

On 8/29, Columbus had our huge semi-annual vintage toy show with $10 admission. That has grown into a big deal for toy collectors in the area. Power Con was earlier, but it's not a vintage toy show so I think some people took a pass and waited for the vintage show.

And re: Power Con itself: I started following their Facebook posts when I heard that the Meet would be there...ok, toy creators and designers. Cool, but I'm not in the industry. I saw the guest list and recognized only 2 Mego folks and 3 rasslers.

If it was meant to be an industry event, then maybe they marketed it in places I didn't see and attracted those folks from out of town. Dunno. When I was there, the crowd looked like fans. If it was meant to have broad appeal, then it needed to find a mainstream identity and market accordingly...bring in Steve from Blue's Clues to sign autographs, etc. If the Meet hadn't been there, I wouldn't have gone. And my son and his friends went next door to Matsuricon, but they had no interest in Power Con. Nobody really knew what it was about.
