I am selling most everything...but I do not think I coudl ever sell my Flash Gordon Megos, Mad monster Megos or CTVT monster Megos...ugh.,.i hate hard times!!
Not sure if your question is: Anyone else having hard times? or
Anyone have something they just won't part with no matter what?
I would have to say yes to both. I've had to pass on a whole lotta stuff I would certainly have liked in the collection lately, mostly due to a very costly addition that I was not certain I could swing. I'm still finding out how that swing works (or doesn't), but oddly enough that item is not in the 'must keep' catagory. Close, but not quite there. I think it is more of a " I would downgrade this, but I don't want to get rid of it completely" sort of thing.
Sorry to hear you are having hard times. FG is a noble set to hold onto as are the Monsters. I would love to see a pic of the FG folks and the playset if you have them together. That is always a cool display.
I can only imagine how hard that could be Lou. My collection holds such a special place in my heart. I wouldn't know what to do. I wish the best for you. Now to answer your question. I think I would have to keep my DC MEGOs. I've always been a fan of DC.

i have sold it all. the only ones i kept were the ones that i had as a kid. trust me, as hard as they were to obtain, you'll be able to get them again IF you really wanted them back.
That is a tough a break Lou, i've had to do that and i am sure most of us at one time or another, but in my experience, you can get most of it back (and better sometimes)
I'd have a hard time letting the westerns go, and would certainly choke on getting rid of the Mego horses in my stable. Most of the stuff I know I could replace, but there are some I worked too hard to get. Unfortunately the ones we worked hardest to get are usually the ones that bring in the cash.
Thank you for the kind words everyone. Much appreciated but trudge on they say! 13 years of collecting...was fun. I am still in cahoots with a member here who has been updating Megolike.com since i have not been in the best spirits of late to do so. Hope that stays running...13 years of that too...evolving from my horrible HTML skills as the Collectible Action Figure Gallery...thank god for good artists!
Good luck Lou, I hope things turn around for you. I have had to sell my Mego collections twice, 30 boxed and carded , and a complete loose mint WGSH set.
I have gotten a bunch of the carded back but might be facing selling them as well, I have been jobless since April and with 3 kids and my reserve running out looks like they will soon hit the chopping block.
it sucks to have even make a decision like that. A few years ago I got in that bind and sold my Mystery Astronaut . . . and my second series ST aliens. As luck would have it I now have EMCE's but I still long for that Mystery Astronaut. I also solf all my 12" stuff then but didn't have a real connection to them.
Hang in there "pisian" it will get better!

It's a Harsh reality , when we have to face it for sure. ...
I think whats worse is Trying to sell some statues and Busts in the Economy... and Knowing they seem to not be worth Half of what they Retail for.
... The Original Knight ..., Often Imitated, However Never Duplicated. The 1st Knight in Customs.
The Stigma surrounding a collection selloff is usually created by the seller themself. There are a few who say, "You Selling Out?". Like you've somehow sold your soul to the devil. I doubt many faced with the unforeseeable decision of selling everything actually wants to make that decision. From someone who's had to make the decision more than once, I'll say you can take away the toys but never take away the love. I've been knocked down, but never knocked out. I've always come back.
Just because a collector has to make a hard choice doesn't mean they no longer have something to offer the hobby. They should never be ostracized for it.

I know what you mean, I have 100 + Bowen mini busts and paid big bucks for some pieces....I think I spent almost $400 on a Thor bust that came with mint unglued wings about three years ago! Now I was thinking of selling the entire collection but hate to take such a loss!
But as we all know when it comes to taking care of the Family and keeping food on the table the collectibles go without a second thought!
Hope things get better Lou! And I hope you find something soon Supes.... Good thoughts for both of you!
