Vintage toys and lead paint........

Hey, i guess everyone has heard about the big Mattel fiasco, the product recall of certain playlines made in china with heavy duty lead paint?
Was wondering if any megos would have lead paint , and if so have we all been slowly poisoning ourselves (happily) to death?

i wouldnt worry about the lead paint on emgos if any. as long as your not chewing on them. mike

Yeah, as long as you are not chewing on the heads, you should be ok. Even if you were doing so, I would be less worried about lead in the paint, and more worried about whatever toxins may be present in cheap Mego vinyl that has been slowly breaking down over the last 30 years or so. (this is why I'm not giving my son any Megos to play with until he stops trying to eat everything)

This was exactly why I was happy to see the CTVT and Doc Mego reproduction pieces. Lead paint and plasticizer migration, truly a heady cocktail.

I don't see what the big deal is. I chew on my Megos all the time and the attached photo will show that it hasn't affected me in the least.

when we were younger we never had any lead paint health issues. so i wouldnt worry about it today. mike

Hmmmm....

By the time I was born I think the lead paint thing was pretty much nailed down. (During the 70's.) So I wouldn't worry so much about it in Megos.

But the separating plasticizers could be a problem. While the material would have been deemed safe during the 70's, the separation occurring nowadays changes the properties. Chewing on a figure's head is not recommended.

.... hands are probably still safe though.... except for the choking thing.

besides, lead paint symptoms are pretty much limited to mispelling and a lack of capitlization when writing

Seriously though, the 911 cleaner from Twin Pines of Maine, deals with plasticiser migration ie, removes the residue from the surface AND replaces it- thats what the brochure says. Ive used it and its great, gets rid of pen and magic marker, plus those good ole green age spots, and most importantly, Mego MELTS !! Yihawwwwwww
