    MOTD: Richie Cunningham

Mego of the Day is everyone's second favourite Happy Days character, Richie Cunningham. Despite being marketed for only a year, Richie is one of the more affordable MOC Mego figures out there.

Now we all know Marion Cunningham would never let Richie leave the house without tucking in his shirt!

That face...I see Ron Howard in there, but he was never that homely. Clint, maybe, but not Ron.

And why didn't Mego give him strawberry-blonde hair? Mego made some odd hair color choices. As dead-on as their Captain Kirk is, his hair is too dark. The Shat's haircolor is hard to nail, but it's not that black/REAL deep brown color.

I have a weird memory about these figures. They were never sold in Canada to my knowledge, if they were, I didn't see them.

We went to Florida Christmas of 1977, drove all night and my parents woke me up to use a truck stop bathroom around 5am. The Happy Days gang was in the toy section of this truck stop, I was barely awake and stared at them for a minute. For years, I pretty much thought I dreamt that..

Fonzie was the only Mego Happy Days figure I ever had or knew existed at the time.

I don't think my local stores carried the others.

I had Fonzie and his Jalopy (which was really Ralph's on the show). I guess I as aware of the others from the Jalopy packaging, but I never really wanted them that badly, which is odd, since I was a huge Happy Days fan.

I don't evem remember the other, non-Fonzie characters being produced. That's a great story, Brian. I can completely understand how you might think that was a dream.

Ditto that. My brother and I had memories/stories like that from our childhood vacations as well. You catch a glimpse of a comic or toy in your travels - - - and then years later you question whether you actually saw it. It becomes like "kid mythology" - - - did that toy/comic really exist or was I dreaming?

As an adult, I've always liked the Happy Days figures, but only ever owned Fonzie. As a kid I didn't know the others existed either. I probably wouldn't have wanted them as a kid, but now is a different story.

I just FINALLY got my loose Potsy. I paid more for him that the other 3 combined (well, granted I did only pay like $10 or so for the 3).
I've always thought these guys would've looked better on Type 1 bodies. Richie's shirt is too tight on that buff chest and he was a rail anyway.
I never had these as a kid but my best friend did have Fonzie. I've toyed with picking up the "missing" characters that CTVT produced. Maybe someday i will. I'd like to get the playsets/accessories now.
Hmmm, maybe a custom Arnold's playset should be on the drawing board? hehe

Now that I look at it, Richie is actually a pretty lousy sculpt.

It looks like an existing figure was tinkered with (very bady) to try and make it resemble Ronny Howard.

                          The chin is the worst.

Actually I think it does have a lot of his features. It looks almost like a cartoon version of Ron Howard. He's kind of goofy looking in real life anyway so a little exaggeration on his features is understandable.
