    Mego of the Day: Mugato

Mego of the Day is the ever funky dressed Mugato from the second series of Star Trek Aliens, let's just concentrate on that cool headsculpt and not on the Greg Brady threads...

Ya gotta love that crazy space monkey. That's actually how I scored a complete original Mugato on eBay: he was listed as space monkey

Yeah, baby! Mugato! He's so awesome! I for one love the clothes. I'm still jealous of that full-sized Mugato costume that was posted here. I'd wear that thing for halloween every year.

My son calls him "Gee-aw-toe" and so do I now (thanks Davey!).

Monkeys = Cool, but Space Monkeys = Totally Freaking Awesome

I guess if you're hardcore into Trek detail, this guy bugs you. Me it's about the toys than the accuracy, so I like him just fine.

HE's just sooo Mego- the inattention to detail, wacky creations all coming together to make a pretty cool (and versatile) villian.

He's the Geico Caveman of his day. He's supposed to be a savage creature, yet he's dressed in stylish clothing. It's a bad style, but it's stylish.

And also like the Geico Caveman, he's lame. But unlike him, loveably so.

On my list of impossible dreams. The only way I'm going to score one of these is by accident or hidden auction.

Prices have fallen on these quite a bit in the past year. I had a seriously tough time selling some, but I was hardnosed on the price. I would bet you could find a good deal. Unless you are against paying more than 50 for a figure.

If that is the case, EMCE is a pretty good alternative.

I'm not a big fan of repros or I'd have bought one already. Sure it'd fool anyone not versed in the hobby but to me all I would see every time I looked at it was a placeholder for the real one.
For a Mugato I'd probably pay over $50 but there aren't very many figures I would.

The amazing thing is they totally ignored the wooly white gorilla look and did what they wanted with a cool mod outfit, but then went to all the trouble to give him special giant ape feet.

See I woulda had a lot of fun with this guy back in the day.
My thing was always coming up with perfectly good reasons,
at least in my kid's mind, for all the inaccuracies.
He would either have been a Mugato from the future where
they are evolved or a race of Mugatos tampered with by
the Klingons to make them soldiers. Or some such thing.
