This page is from the 1977 for "Johnny's Toys" a KY/OH based chain of toystores and features a tribute to the Batman (and some marvel characters snuck in there for good measure), interesting that they're still using RC Batman years after he was discontinued, must have confused a pile of kids. That lightbox is a new one to me, pretty obscure item compared to the others on that page I would have thought.
I've been trying to find a nice-priced mint-boxed Batman Janex clock for years. Everytime I think I've found one it goes for $150 and some! S'pose that's probably what I should pay :-)
Bat-tastic ad! I wish I could get my Janex clock to work!
"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."
I actually visited a Johnny's Toys for the first time earlier this year. Unfortunately, they are converting the store over to a play area/restaurant ala Chuck E. Cheese. The store looks like a big castle, and you can just imagine what it looked like in the 70s and 80s.
This ad really goes to show how huge Batman was, even into the 70s. From 1966 to now, Batman's popularity only slightly dipped three times. Immediately following the TV show's cancellation, and twice in the 80s, early in the decade, and inbetween the Super Powers line and the 89 movie. Batman was Mego's WGSH cash cow for sure.
That is a great ad. I want to get everything on that page! And, yes, since I knew about the RC bats and had one, if I had seen that ad back in '77, I would have gone running into that store looking for one.
