The 1974 Mego Planet of the Apes Show Room

A rather epic addition today to our Planet of the Apes Galleries, the first (but hopefully not last) known shot of the 1974 Mego Toyfair showroom featuring the Planet of the Apes action figures and Doctor Cornelius himself (obviously one of the store appearance suits) click on the image for a larger view.

I got this in last night and my wife didn't share my enthusiasm, she thought Cornelius gave a "Micheal Myers" vibe in the photo.

I didn't get a Michael Myers vibe, but I definitely am getting the " I am an ACKTORRR!" feel from this character. Probably regaled the visitors with how he played a "still talked about rendition" of a gravedigger from Hamlet in Shakespeare in the park ten years ago, and how the Tums commercial he did four years ago won an Addy. Then he hands them a free pass to a way off Broadway dinner theatre where he can currently be seen as townsperson number three in the abridged version of Death of a Salesman.
He can currently be seen in as the guy with Diahrea in the recent Pepto Bismol commercial, and will be appearing as a Raibow Brite Sprite in the 2010 Toy Fair.

I woulda loved to have the Ape diorama to play with as a kid though!!!!
