Spotlight on the EMCE/Mattel Sinestro

in every permutation.
I'm just not one of them.
The most "modern" interpretations of the DCU I'd go would be the
JLU figures only because I loved that show to death---and indeed
MANY of their costumes were throwbacks to the earlier more "circusy" days.
It's just me....no biggie.
(Ironically, Sinestro has a pretty low hairline in JLU with the circus suit
included---but I'll give Timm/Dini a pass!)
Here's where I'm coming from tho...
One my favorite bronze age sources for DC villains was SSOSV
and---well---Sinestro had the receding look pretty
prominent in a few of those issues.
(I think he might have had an earring too---ha)
Anyways---from Superfriends and the few times I've bonded
with SINESTRO in 70s comics, he always seemed to have the receding look."No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris MannixComment

Nah...I totally get the choice of style of Sinestro, given the Mego Era. Makes perfect sense...and I of course will be buying one.
I'm a Hal Jordan Fan, but never really liked the Character of Sinestro...up until GL:Rebirth...and the creation of Yellow Lantern Corps. Now...I'm totally hooked into the storyline, and think Sinestro is a pretty cool Villain!sigpicComment

I am really looking forward to getting my hands on a few of these...one to keep carded, one to open and display and one for my son to play withComment

I have to echo the sentiments regarding the yellow suit. I have ZERO interest in purchasing modern characters or variants in this line - if they aren't from the Mego era (give or take a year or two), I wouldn't even consider purchasing them. That's what we have Legends/Classics/Universe lines for.Comment

Yes...but what makes you think we are Doc's only target Audience? If they're going to be in Toys R' Us...then some of the Figures need to have a Mass appeal.sigpicComment

but then thinking that way doesn't suit posting OUR opinions very well DOES it?
I mean, other than than that we want our friend Doc to succeed, but
of COURSE that's a "given".
Incidentally, it's issues like these that make guys like me wonder if the line was better off staying more "exclusive" ala all the EMCE stuff before the WGSH.
(not that that was an option Doc had to begin with)

I definitely think going mass Market was the right thing to do...versus staying in a niche Market like Diamond. I think these figures being in Toys R' Us will give them a much longer life!
And, I sure hope I'm right.sigpicComment

Long life but not as much appeal to everyone. If you look at the kids toy market there is a lot out there with new toys hitting weekly it seems. A new MEGO-like line that comes out with 5 figures without any playset/outfits or anything else will most likely be overlooked for toys that have better play value. FC where the same way. Great figures but quickly went to clearance after everyone skimmed over them.
5 basic figures are great for us , the target market, but for the mass market I think it will flop in some sense. I just hope we are not over hyping them.Comment

I couldn't disagree more! Most of the Toys I see in the Toy Stores nowadays are total CRAP! And you certainly can't compare Mattel's NEW Megos to Famous Covers(you called them Great Figures???)...they were complete GARBAGE!
I think this mentality of These are, "our Figures"...made for us Collectors is the wrong kind of thinking. And I'm sure Doc Mego would disagree as well...As he's stated repeatedly..."He would not stop until he got Megos back in the BIG Toy Stores"! And...he's doing it!sigpicComment

My own personal opinion on the head sculpt is I would have gone with a slightly larger cranium....ala the look from Challenge of the Super Friends and early Gil Kane. Makes him more Sinestro and not just like some balding fellow with magenta skin and a moustache.

Anthony-----seems like you'd dig something like JIM HAMPTON'S "Sinestro"
sculpt ala:
"No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris MannixComment

I'm making on behalf of myself and guys that fall in a simillar niche---
----MUCH smaller than any TOYS R US mass concern.
I'm VERY glad (and proud) that Doc achieved his goal of getting the
WGSH into the "big" stores but I don't wanna look back at this
"Mattel joint venture" and say "At what cost was that venture made?""No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris MannixComment

You can get away with it based on that fact alone. Similarly if a Leader figure was ever made by Mego, I'd hope that his head was twice the size of the Hulk's.
