You think, 20 bucks a pop? I can understand pricing like that from a little guy, but mattel should be able to do better. Kids can't afford that, IMO."Steel-like jaws clacked away, each bite slashing flesh from my body - I used my knife and my hands, and when they were gone, my bloody stumps - and yet the turtles came."Comment

To quote Dr Mego himself....
Expect these figures to be priced about the same as the Star Treks
as a rule of thumb. Bigger retailers may have some wiggle room on
the final price.Think OUTSIDE the Box! For the BEST in Repro & Custom Packaging!Comment

While I would have agreed with you on the $20 being a bit high, toy collectors themselves have been their own worst enemy. Take the MOTU line. By design alone these new DC figures should be far better than any of those figures. Cloth costumes alone make it "better" in my opinion. Those MOTU figures sell out on Matty.com at $20 a pop. Many collectors despise that site as the only purchase option, but from Mattel's point of view, it's by far the greatest thing since sliced bread. No middleman, only ship the figures to one warehouse and then direct to the consumer. They make the total retail price instead of the wholesaler's cost. Mattel does much better going direct and from what I've seen has never had an issue of loads of stock sitting in clearance bins in Toys R Us or Walmart, making the line look like a flop. If I'm Mattel even if I only sell half of the initial run, I just put SOLD OUT on the website for 6-8 weeks and then put it back on as BACK IN STOCK, and all those consumers that saw it as out for weeks have to grab one before they're gone again. If they sold out the first time they must be awesome. The other half goes and Whammo initial run is a sell out with no one the wiser. "While supplies last" was one of the greatest marketing lines in the history of TV sales. Makes you pick up the phone and order right away when you hear it. Same basic concept.Last edited by megocrazy; Jul 27, '09, 12:55 PM.It's not a doll it's an action figure.Comment

How much would it cost, approximately, to build a Custom Green Arrow, using Dr. Mego reproduction parts, from scratch? Head, body, costume, accessories...?
For the Mattel WGSH, I would pay $20 ea. without hesitation, but collectors are a notoriously cheap lot. I'm hoping Mattel really targets the current generation of kiddos... in which case I hope the price is as low as possible.
$14.99 sounds really fair, comparatively!

The Mattel DCUC 6" figures are close to $15 at retail. My local Wal-Mart just bumped them up to $12.67 or so. I don't want to poo-poo this line at all, but I can't see it retailing for less than $18 on the cheap, more likely $20 or more a pop. Maybe the use of the same body over and over will keep it low. I hope so!
What are the 12" Joes selling for now? That would be a good price comparison. They should come in a bit cheaper, since they are 4" shorter.

15-20 bucks, but if they could sell them for 12.99....they would deffinately build on the younger market. You could afford to give a kid two for a b-day gift instead of one...then he's gonna want the whole set...then he's gotta have a bad guy.....
you get the idea.Comment

I think Mattel can bring that down a bit seing as they are a smaller figure if marketed to kids, but not if they go with the Mattycollector angle like MOTU and aim it solely towards adult collectors.Comment
