Vintage Mego Ad from the pages of Starlog

Click on the ad for a larger view

New to the MegoMuseum Ad Archive is this wonderful ad from Starlog Magazine circa 1985, over the years I've heard many folks mention this ad as being the thing that drew them back to Mego in their adult life. The company is no long called "Planet Earth" but they are still in business.

I ordered a Frankenstein from this ad, I had never seen one before and had to have it. The Spider-Man figures Planet Earth sold were actually the very rare Canadian Parkdale Novelty cards.

Check out the MegoMuseum Library for hours of Mego browsing.

I like that ad, it's eye catching. That Parkdale card is pretty yummy too.

Yup , I can see how that ad would draw people back. I loved seeing things like this, it always seemed to scream buy me , buy me.

I remember buying this issue and going on a weekend trip with my parents, where I almost memorized this ad.

That's a cool ad. It's funny to think that an ad for Megos as collectables is now a collectable! It's also funny to see the Klingon going for more back then than it goes for now!
Nostalgia just ain’t what it used to be.

Just imagine how many of those Parkdale cards might have been ripped open...

And they still have listed an unopened case and 12 carded Klingons for sale!

I remember Diamond listing Trek figures, 12" Batman and Spidey, and the Bat-Console for years in their Previews catalogs, way up into the 90s. Why didn't I bite then?

Cool ad. Is this the first instance where Megos were treated as "rare collectibles"?

That's really cool to see. I had stopped reading Starlog by 1985. Too bad, if I saw that ad back then, I would have went nuts.

Kirk and Spock look pretty chummy in that pic.

Yup, the ad hooked me too. I even visited Brad and Jeannie's store in the 80's (I have a few pictures that I'll post iof I can find them).

They had oodles of Megos on the shelves from the warehouse find.

Wow, they had a store you could visit too? And it was less than a 90 minute drive for me? Damn, if I only knew back then.

Fantastic ad! I always thought they were NYC-based, not Canada. Hunh!

The store came around 88, they did have oodles of stuff. I remember giving them a lead to make a big sale and they gave me a MIB Aquaman for it, it was so minty.
