I think that film was probably the most UNDER-merchandised film in the 70's. It so deserved more... in my opinion.

Are you talking about the model kit?

KING KONG APE FIGURE MEGO MODEL KIT MINT 1976 BOX Movie

I have a childhood friend who has one and box but not mint. Always enjoyed looking at it when I was a kid.

What they were talking about was the game. I have the model kit, minus the box. I picked mine up, complete with instructions, for $5.00. I consider that a pretty cool score. Sweet pic ealdrett!

Makes sense. Never seen that one back in the day.

Here's the commercial for the game...

Here's the model kit commercial (note the 12 inch Mego Batman figure on the shelf he sits his Kong model on).

                  Sweet! Thanks for those links.
I recall the model Kong and Snake seeing those at Pic'N'Save. That Batman on the shelf looks more like an 8" Seems to have oven mitts on.

I can't think that I've ever seen a commercial for any model kit before; wonder if it was some kind of trade advertisement, something shown at a toy fair or sent to retailers.

I wonder, too, if 9/11 had any impact on the desirability of either the model or the game or, conversely, if it made people want to put them away and not look at them.

Totally agree, I cherish the few items that did get released but there should have been more.

I think my most prized piece is the Kong hair they clipped from the giant mechanical Kong and placed in key chains. I need to post some pics. That is pretty neat.
