Have DC Direct 13" figures filled your Mego DC VOID?

DC Direct 13" CLOTH-costumed figures are the current successor to Mego 8" DC! The 40TH DC Direct 13"- Batman Beyond was solicited last month for January 2010! I have collected this line from the start and have MOST of them! I like them! The head sculpts are detailed, fantastic costumes, and nice articulation! The $100 price for each 13" is NOT so great and will eventually kill the line! The BEST solution would be for DC to grant EMCE the DC license to make NEW DC 8" Megos for around $20 each! REISSUES and NEVER BEFORE DONE DC characters! The POSSIBILITIES are ENDLESS!

While certainly not filling a collecting void, I do have several of the 13" figures (primarily trying to recreate a JLA and a Legion of Doom). For me (being a tad older than most here), they are like Caption Action successors, minus the gorilla arms (LOL ) I really do like them (sculpts, costumes etc..) but with a few caveats.

I do agree that the rising price of them is a major negative, but at least, thanks to Ebay and the aftermarket, that can be reduced, sometimes by 30-40%!!

And for me, a Silver Age afficienado, the original Older Supes was definitely preferable (although I have the later one as well). I also have both of the Bats (although the Blue and light grey format is by far my favorite). Fully satisfied with the Flash, Martian Manhunter, Aquaman, Shazam and Luthor. I wish the Bizarro had been the Silver Age version though (what a surprise!) and the Green Arrow is perfect!

Although my wallet would cringe with pain, a nice JSA would be appreciated in this scale. (and we still need a Hawkman too!)

And in case anyone is wondering.... although I find the DC Direct 13" figures great collectibles, they are definitely running a distant second to Megos as far as that elusive "charm" factor goes ... (and the Megos can fit in my didadisplays too! LOL!)

Not for me, been down that road so many times that I know I'd be bored by the time I got it home. They're pretty but it's kind of empty for me personally.

I forgot to mention that I also have something unusual to compare the DC Direct 13" figures to .... my custom 12" JLA

I liked the looks of these, but they are just way too big! Anybody have a collection picture of them? I wouldn't mind seeing a bunch together.

I only wish that Marvel would make 13" figures... until then, my custom 12" JLA will have to hang around with my custom 12" Avengers...

                DCDs

I really like this line; hey, lets face it, if you throw out the nostalgia factor (tough to do!), these blow Megos out of the water ! The costumes are much more authentic and of better materials, the sculpts are better, they have cooler accessories; they do have some faults, though, like the cut joints, poor wrist articulation, bendy hands, etc. I grew up playing with Megos, though, so they'll always be #1 to me.

I have every one of the DCD 13"-ers thus far (even the movie-based ones), but it's looking like Batman Beyond might be my first "pass". I know nothing about the character, but this figure, at least at this preliminary phase, is pretty bad.

I see where the Golden Age Flash has been delayed until September 2 (it was originally due next week); hopefully they decided to delay it because they plan to announce a GA Green Lantern and/or Dr Fate at Comic-Con in a couple of weeks, and feel that might increase interest in Jay!

The major "hole" in this line is, of course, Hawkman. It's been hinted by the powers-that-be at DCD that Hawkman might not be feasible due to the expense that would be necessary to do him right, with the wings. If they could somehow release him with multiple heads, ala the second release of Green Lantern, maybe the higher cost could be justified. They could include the Golden Age head, the yellow-masked head (that the Earth 2 Hawkman sported in the Silver and Bronze age) and the classic Earth 1 Silver Age head. Add a mini-Atom pack-in figure and it would seem a much better value. I know I'd buy two at least (hey, I have four of the Green Lantern Corps figure!).

                My Most-Wanted DCD 13"-ers:
                -HAWKMAN
                -Golden Age Green Lantern
                -Dr Fate
                -Firestorm
-Captain Marvel Jr (oops, I mean "SHAZAM Jr!)
                -Mary Marvel
                -Kid Flash
                -Speedy
                -Wonder Girl
                -Silver Age Catwoman
                -Riddler
                -Captain Cold
                -Silver Age Brainiac

Why some of these were passed over in favor of "Batman Beyond" is a real head-scratcher!

I love the DC 13" figures, but they don't fill any kind of void. They're very nice, detailed figures, but do not have the same silly charm as my Megos.

I'd buy the Silver Age Brainiac, the Dr. Fate, Hawkman and the Firestorm in a second...

Who am I kidding... after a pause, I'd no doubt get the Riddler, SA Catwoman and Captain Cold too! LOL

Here a few pics of mine that I took a while back; these were taken before several newer releases like Sinestro, Sgt Rock, Sandman, etc, and don't include any of the movie-based figures which I don't currently display:

I also have the original "2-In-1" Superman/Clark Kent figure ( well 3, actually ) but didn't have it displayed when I took these.

They look great, but I just can't devote the money and shelf space to them, I'd rather spend my money on and fill my shelves with vintage stuff. 10 years ago I'd probably be buying them all, but my toy priorities have changed since then. I'm not looking for any void to fill, still plenty of Megos I still have to buy.

although the dc direct figures are very well made, unfortunately, nothing fills my mego void except for megos.

Not a chance. I very, very rarely buy any type of modern toy. My connection with Megos is a connection with my childhood. Even "new mego"
stuff like EMCE has some of that connection. Sure there were Sulu or Chekov figures but I sure wanted there to be! When I FINALLY got a Mego Green Goblin as an adult I felt like I was eight again and thought "I've been waiting almost 30 years for this!" I don't get that from a new toy.

I have a few of my favorites, but the expense/size deters me. They are beautifully detailed, but I've found some accessories fragile.

That said, I'm surprised that someone hasn't shrunk the head sculpts, which are excellent.

BTW 60'schild, great customs! I have a ton of CC 'Joes; you've used them well.
