    Collectible Grading Authority

I'm probably preching to the choir here but......

Many of you know who Collectible Grading Authority is. I had heard of them a few years ago as a group that appraises vintage action figures and sets their values sky high, esp. on eBay. I sort of avoided them after that.

However, a few months ago I discovered that they make the best clear acrylic display cases for almost every carded/boxed action figure on the planet including the 8" Star Trek Megos and the 12" Kenner vintage Star Wars figures and Indiana Jones.

These are excellent cases, I recommend them!

      Right, yes, AFA, exactly.

Not to change the subject but since you're clearly a wrestling fan, what do you think of wrestling being on the Sci-Fi channel? I belong to another forum where a debate about this seems to have sprung up.

$40 for a large size SW figure case, ouch. That's more than I paid for some of the boxed figures themselves. I'd eventually like to get some cases for my boxed WGSH though. I'd also really like to get a case for my 12" Lili Ledy Princess Leia but it doesn't look like they make cases for those boxes (the Ledy boxes are larger than the Kenner boxes).

sure, the cases are expensive but when I have the vintage Kenner 12" Luke in a Mint Box, or a signed Princess Leia in a near mint box, it's worth the $40 for the case. So far, I bought one for the Kenner 12" vintage Indiana Jones figure. Fits like a glove although I need to find another Indy in a better condition box.

Reason that I have not bought more cases for my 12" vintage SW figs is that I currently have them displayed in these 12" x 12" x15" clear doll display cases. I'll post pics in the user gallery.

However, I have all of my 8" MEGO Star Trek figures in the AFA cases all lined up on a shelf. THAT is the way vintage figures should be displayed. With respect, yo! ;-)

I am a huge fan of CGA cases I have about 200 of them. Every carded Vintage SW figure I have about 80 of them as well as every boxed and carded and Kresge mego I have is one. I am also ordering custom cases for my solid boxed Mad Monsters as well as the super-gals

There is a 20% off coupon code for the AFA acrylic cases both in stock and custom size.

Just enter JUNE20 when you check out. Good til June 30th.

A Friend and I just went in together on 50 more today.

              Wow, 200 of them, nice!

Well, for my carded small figures like the 3.75" Mego STTMP, Kenner SW, and Playmates, I found these cases first and they are very nice and inexpensive:

              http://www.wholesalecases.com/star-wars-supplies.html

You can hang them or stand them up on a shelf. Granted, they're no AFA cases but they are an inexpensive solution to displaying various small figures. I have about 100 of these and I love them.

But for me, when it comes to the larger, vintage figures, I stick with AFA!

I am also a huge fan of these CGA acrylic cases. I used to buy them from Ron Wallace, now you have to go to CGA for them. I have over 100 for my carded WGSH collection, and I have about 60 of them for my carded vintage Star Wars collection.

I also just went in with a friend for 50 more today.

OK, that's tempting, I might have to order some for my boxed WGSH. It's funny, I was just thinking the other day that I really should get some cases for them at least. So the general concensus seems to be that if one wants to buy cases, these are the ones to get?

                    hiya cj,

Do they have any boxes sized for the 6mdm line? Or perhaps the Vader or Chewie size would work for the Ledy box?

Hmmm, good question. I'll do some measuring tonight.

The CGA cases are much nicer than the Oscar cases.

I purchased a few Oscar cases to compare and here is what I have found.

                            1. The sliding doors on the bottom of the Oscar cases slide open way too easily, so easy sometimes they slide completely out when handling the case.

                            2. The "rails" that hold the carded figures in the Oscar cases are not smoothed or beveled. So if you have a card that isn't perfectly flat they can scrape the edges of the card when sliding the carded figure in the case. This can also happen with the CGA ones but only if you have a card that is severely warped.

I think Oscar's customer service is a little better than AFA's. AFA's CS isn't terrible but it's not as good as it was when Ron Wallace/Cloud City was selling the cases. The case sales switched over to AFA after Cloud City was sold to Brian's Toys.

Oscars cases are quite a bit cheaper and his shipping prices are MUCH MORE REASONABLE than AFA's. Shipping prices can be down right ridiculous from AFA and they have a cheaper shipping price on eBay than they do in the store, so if ordering a large quantity make sure you ask for a credit for the difference between the eBay shipping price and the CGA website shipping price
