Have you ever done something really dumb repairing a mego and then realized what the heck just happened. Going through my loose megos and noticed hey green arrows knee pin popped. Ok let fix him. Looked for a T2 leg and no luck. Ok have some legs with the lower legs snapped off. Just pop the female end off the knee joint and were good. Well easier said than done. The male pin got stuck and was using some pliers and a fine point cross tip screw driver to get the lodged pin out. Well popped the pin out and the whole time I kept thinking man Im gonna stab myself if I dont get some gloves on. Sure enough in a flash it happened. Screw driver went through the female pin straight into one side of the finger and out the other. Hurt like you wouldnt believe. Missed the bone so Im still good but man that hurt really bad. Just wondering if someone else has done something dumb like that. Happened around 15 minutes ago and had to sit for a little while till I was able to stand.

are you up on your tetanus shots?
Never harmed myself with a mego. (the dolls may fair poorly, but I usually make it out OK), but I did stab myself pretty good with an xacto in my teenage modelmaking world. Cut was less than a half inch wide, but probably 1.5-2 inches deep - straight puncture. Couldn't feel the skin on my kneecap for several years after that.
Also had a dolly give while I was hammering out a dent in my car. Lost about a quarter of the flesh on the tip of my finger Didn't hit the bone; just mashed the side of my fingerprint off. That sucker throbbed like hell when it was bedtime. Had to sleep with my hand propped up in the air. There is a little ball of fat right on the pad of your finger. If you hit it hard ehough, it shoots right on out of there. Don't try this at home.
Seriously. Hope you are feeling ok and make sure and get the puncture looked at if you see any infection striping away from the wound. -

OMG! Hope your ok!
Ok, here's some tips for getting those pins out.
These pretty much work for me. Have patience and they might work for you.
I'll try to explain without pics, so bear with me!
First step pretty much is for getting a unbroken pin out. Say you got crappy legs and want the pin.
Oil the pin with a drop of light oil. I use sewing machine oil. Tube has a fine tip.
Let it set for a day, two, whatever. This gives it time to seep into it.
Now, I use a small tack hammer, needle nose pliers, and a T15 torx bit.
Lay the pliers on a hard surface, preferably not a porcelain counter. You know that round hole in the pliers?
Have this up. Take your leg with head of the pin, size and line it up with the hole. Have the leg cross the pliers. What you're doing is giving it the gap for the pin to come out. Its a little tricky.
This is where patience comes in!
Take the bit line it square in the pin end and hit it firmly, not brutally! You probably will have to hold the leg with your same hand that your holding the bit with.
Third and fourth finger. They're not doing anything anyway
The last step hammering with the bit in your hand should remove those broken pins, if they are stuck.
Remember these are methods I use!! I've had pretty good results. So far no hand smacks. Knock on wood!Last edited by theressa; Jun 20, '09, 12:13 PM.Wants, original parts; thinking...

Nothing quite that severe, but I'm had several minor mego repair and custom related injuries. Usually involving an exacto knife. Although once I stuck myself so bad sewing that I started bleeding all over the white custom shirt I was sewing and had to pitch it. Unfortunately, I was the last couple stitches to complete the project. I've also sewn my finger into seams a time or two without even realizing it. Ugh!
But your have a "real" injury, and better get it looked at!Comment

I agree -- you may want to get a tetanus shot or get it checked out, especially if the area remains red or swollen.
I hit myself with a hammer trying to get a knee pin out and got a very small puncture wound from a screwdriver. oh and a few burns.Comment
