Meet Spider-Man, the Wicked Witch and Cornelius the Ape at Gold Circle!

There is just so much to love about this vintage Mego store appearance ad, like the word Shaboom and the use of Aquaman and Tarzan in the toy ad. Below are some of the pieces of paper you would get from such an appearance.

Spidey would hand these little fliers to kids, fortunately kids saved them!

Lucky Apes kids would get this, a signed picture of Caesar acting as Cornelius, a McDowell is a McDowell to mego....

Obviously Peter overslept the morning he posed for this ad. He put his underwear on the outside of his tights!!!

Great ad though. You just don't see hand-drawn stuff like this anymore.

I have the Wizard of OZ handout piece as well but I couldn't find it.

There isn't much I don't love about this ad, it's a combination of two of my favourite things. Although the viewmasters are kind of ill fitting.

Wow, they had a lot of Mego in stock. You forget that all those lines were on the shelf at the same time.

              What a great ad!

I wonder why the Viewmaster was the only non-Mego item included.

Does anyone know what region Gold Circle was in?

                From Wiki...

Covering mostly New York, Ohio, Western Pennsylvania and Kentucky, the chain was founded in 1967 in Columbus, Ohio, with its corporate headquarters and distribution center located in Worthington, Ohio, a Columbus northern suburb. In 1984, Gold Circle was notable as the first major discounter to implement chain wide UPC barcode scanning[3] in an effort to reduce checkout time for shoppers and improve inventory accuracy and speed store merchandise replenishment.

Gold Circle was a discount department store chain based in Ohio. Founded in 1967, it was a division of Federated Department Stores with 76 stores when the chain was sold and dismantled in 1988.[1] Hills took over 35 stores and Target purchased 31 locations while Kmart leased 3 others.[2]

I would have loved to have gone there. Maybe you could buy viewmasters of the Spider-man cartoon and POTA's?

Gold Circle came to Buffalo when Twin Fair went out of business and took over all their locations. I think when GC went out some years later, some of them became Hills and others K-Mart.

"Blat"? That's the best they could come up with for the Apes Fortress?

Oh yeah, I remember going to Twin Fair, Gold Circle and Hills in Buffalo. All long gone now (and the area K-marts always look like they are just barely hanging on by a thread).
