Help with Apes?

Apes in the wild.

I have absolutely zero knowledge of this line except of it's existence. My mother went to an antique store in Western Kentucky last week and found four for me. Of course, I'm glad she thought of me but I was expecting some beat up stuff.

Wrong.

These are all loose but dead mint. No rubs, no stains and complete. After research I figured out I got Zira, Cornelius, SOldier and Zaius. These are all type ones with tight joints. I couldn't believe the condition especially coming from the podunk area she found them. For the set she paid 35 dollars. I know that's probably a good deal in any situation, but do apes actually have any value outside of variants?

My original idea was to use them for trade, but these are terrific pieces that I may just go ahead and keep. Opinions or suggestions?

Sweet deal as i've seen solider apes hit over $35 for loose complete, I say hang on to em or at least hold out for something you really really want, All you need is a loose Astronaut and you'll have the complete first series of Apes

I would keep them and make a display. Plus you can take pictures of them and your mug to send to your mother for any special occasion. :-)

You could definitely make the 35 back with the soldier if'n he has his gloves and whatnots.
I wouldn't say they are the highest dollar mego out there, but 4 in the wild figures in good shape for 35 sounds perfect to me. kudos to you and your awesome mama.

Yes, take a picture and have it printed on a Coffee Mug or Mousepad maybe and give it to her.

Heck, my mom wouldn't know a Mego from a Barbie even if I gave her a picture of what to look for! LOL!! Nice snag. Let's see some pics. I love the Apes. I have the whole apes set except for a silver soldier and the plastic stand-alone jail.
Now you're hooked and need to start hunting down a treehouse to display them in! haha

First, congrats on the Apes, my oldest and truest mego love!

Common apes aren't really "valuable". If they are nice and complete, figures that don't have accessories like Zauis and Cornelius are usually only around $15. Zira can be a little more, and soldier ape, if he's common blue, depends on his accessories. Does he have his boots? Rifle? Most importantly his gloves? What about his bando? He has a lot of parts to lose, so the price goes up if he's complete. In the $40 range I would thing.

You may be able to make a few bucks selling them but I think just having a cool score your mom got you is better.

Thanks for the feedback, guys and gals. Since this was a cool thing for her to pick these up, I'll just keep them and make a display. I know it was a steal, but I was wondering how good that deal really was. You answered that for me.

My mother is very aware of Mego and my action figure and customizing hobby. In many cases, she's my seamstress for various patterns. She's got a designer's eye and is a crafty lady.
