2009 is 70TH Anniversary of Wizard of Oz 1939 movie!

Wouldn't EMCE Mego 8" Wizard of Oz figures reissues be a nice way to celebrate the movie's 70th anniversary! The Oz figures were some of my favorite Megos EVER I'd like to get the Munchikinland and Witch's Castle playsets that I NEVER had along with the Munchikins themselves! Back in 1989 for Wizard of Oz's 50th anniverasry I bought Hamilton Gifts Presents 15" Oz dolls with connecting Yellow Brick Road stands and Multi Toys 12" Oz dolls (sold at TRU and KB Toys) which were DEFINITELY inspired by Mego as well as 4" action figures and wind-ups! In 1999 for the 60th anniversary I got 6 different VERY NICE Oz 5" action figures at Wal-Mart marked down to only $1.50 each! *Anybody know the company that made these? Mego Oz figures are still the BEST, I'd LOVE to see them re-released!

They were made by Trevco. They also made a set of larger dolls.

I agree it would be cool if the Mego Oz figures got re-issued for the 70th anniversary.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

the best IMO is the captain action like doll dress up outfits issued in 1989.

I remember those. They were made by Multi Toys. The same company that made the 3 3/4 inch Oz action figures and the 12 inch Barbie like Oz figures. The quality on those was honestly only fair. Probably on par with the various generic Barbies Creata Toys made at the time.

Fashion doll wise, Mattel's Barbie Oz lines are head and shoulders over the stuff by Multi Toy. The only downside on them is they lack actor likenesses and look like Barbie and Ken as the characters. The quality is VERY high on them though.

So far no Oz line has ever topped what Mego did, in my opinion.

            Oz

I don't know that re-issues of the Mego Oz figures would be in that high of demand, though, when you can typically pick up the originals MIB for $25-30 on ebay (well, except for the Munchkins and Wizard, though you can get the Wiz bagged pretty cheap!).

Think kids and families. I would say there are lots of people out there unaware of Mego and vintage toy collecting but would still buy Oz toys if they saw them at Walmart or a toy store.
