Newspaper as Ape Treehouse packing material

When I got my POTA treehouse in the 1980's from a collector's dealer. It was completely unassembled and as I would expect it from a store.

When I unpacked it, there was some 1974 era crumpled sheets of newspaper used for cushioning of some of the parts.

It's a bit of a mystery since the toys were made in Hong Kong but the newspaper is from New York City.

I am wondering if the NYC Mego warehouses put the newspaper in the packages to add cushion so they can stack them higher or was it the store who sold it or the person who first bought it.

Has anyone else come across vintage newspaper for packing material in playsets?

I remember Marty saying playsets were made in the USA, most likely in NY. I know the boxes were printed in Brooklyn so its very possible the manufacturer put the paper in there. I have had a few with crumpled up paper as packing material but it wasn't news paper.

I think the plastic parts were made in HK but the vinyl and the light assembly was all done in the US. That's what companies such as PAC packaging did back in the day.

Growing up, my sister had a friend who put Dukes of Hazzard sets together for Grand toys.

The first one I got had a Canadian Tire flier in it.
