    Back then it would have been a real chore to mask that ship out in the old printing process. These days probably 2 seconds in photoshop. Nice catch.

              Me, too. I've had all the Blish books since the early 70's and never noticed. Looks like it was copied, but not photographically as the location of the windows and the deflector dish are a bit different.
              It's all good!

                  I've seen the same rendering of the Enterprise used for other items from the early 70's and later but I can't remember which ones.It's probably one of the best side angle images of the Enterprise used at the time.

                      Good catch, I have a puzzle book from the seventies that uses that same image, and somewhere I still have a fold out poster of that image as well, always thought it would be cool framed.
