Am I torturing my child?
Given the amount of his Dad's stuff in the house it was pretty natural that Superheroes would become important to him. For the longest time they were all "Man-Ah"....now he's 17 months old and has nailed down pronunciation of Superman, Spider-man, and Batman (complete with na-na-nana-na-na-nana thanks to the ride we saw at the comic book exhibit).
But he really really wants to get inside the glass display cases. And he's getting increasingly upset that these treats are denied him. He has a great set of vintage Sesame Street Finger puppets that he loves. He has Mattell Super Friends Supes and Bats. He has a beater Mego Spidey that he loves, but he's figured out it's inferior to the minty ones on the shelf. He's not going to be hurting for cool toys...but I feel like I'm teasing him sometimes. It's kind of unfair to be tempted by these things you can't touch.
What do you do? How do you handle this situation?
