Does Mego own the name Action Jackson ?

    I just had a thought,

Remember the 80's movie Action Jackson ?

Did the producers have to get permission from Mego or Mego's then owner to use the name Action Jackson as the title of their movie ?

I don't know enough about copyright law, but I THINK a big difference lies in the product type. Sometimes two products can have the same name if they are different enough so consumers wouldn't confuse them.

Also, Mego went outof business in '83 and the movie came out in '88. I'm not sure that Marty or whoever had the rights would have felt threatened enough to pursue a lawsuit.

      Phil Action Jackson

Action Jackson was the nickname of Phil Jackson - the coach of the
NY Knicks in the late '60s - early '70s.

Marty's dad thought that would be a good name for an adventurer.
I have never seen photos of Phil Jackson, but I hope he didn't look
like Mego's AJ. That face is still the ugliest thing I have ever seen!

By the time The Carl weathers Movie came about, the Name was pretty much
free ,Copy Right only last 14 years without a renewal of the property.
That why I started reproducing G.I.Joe body Parts in 1989, I already knew the copyright for the body was abandoned by Hasbro.
The mego body is also Public domain.

            Wow !!!!!

Maybe AJ will be back soon in stores under the Mego/Gentile name.

For Marty, this would be a cheap line to produce and it almost sells itself.

In this day and age, Marty should turn the whole AJ line military related.

I bet they'd sell like hotcakes

I don't think he'd bother reacquiring the name and not use it. We may be in for an Action Jackson revival!

I hope the Type 0 body comes back with him. It's gotta be cheaper to make than a T2, and I don't wanna spend a lot of money on AJs

It would be nice if they sell AJ like they used too --- meaning sell the suits seperately with no body included

I wouldn't mind some "adventure sets" also like the ones GI Joe had back in the day such as white tiger, pygmy gorilla, mummys tomb, etc. Maybe a playset like AJ Headquarters.
I'd stay away from the sports outfits. I don't think those were ever popular with any toy (Big Jim, AJ, etc)
