    Palitoy card artwork

Looking at the Palitoy cards this week has me wondering if the artwork for the cards came from UK comics the way the American artwork did. Has anyone ever checked this out? Any ideas?

Could be Scott. That Batman pose looks real familiar, but I can't place it. The body looks kind of Curt Swan-like, and we know he did the US Fistfighter packages, and Mego did some other swipes of his stuff, but I can't be sure. If the DC characters are taken from British comics, then it's probably from covers or incidental art. To my knowledge, most DC comics printed in Britain were reprints from the US.

The Penguin is the same as the Corgi Diecast artwork.....

It may be generic artwork that was on general release by DC at the time.

^ The Penguin art is based off a poster that DC released by Carmine Infantino. It's the same artwork that's used on the back of the U.S. boxes as well as the back of the 2nd issue U.S. cards.

I think the reversed Batgirl image is interesting. Mego obviously did that because their Bat Girl belt had been made with the purse on the wrong side, not that Mego payed that much attention to costume details.

Yeah, the art from the Infantino/Anderson posters was used for years on products. Either direct reproductions or redraws like the Corgi above (and Mego's swinging Batman pose from the original packages).
