Character collecting, What is the appeal?

I notice that some of you focus on Character based collecting such as BatMan, Spider-man and even Robin. What is the appeal of this focus and don't you ever feel tempted to stray?

I personally don't collect anything actually character related, but my childhood buddy who grew up to become a doctor collects mostly just Dr McCoy memorabilia

I actually was the catalyst for his obsession many years ago when I bought him a Doctor McCoy Hamilton plate as a joke

I collect Robin stuff, mainly just figures from non-Mego lines. I like the character, probably from as a kid having always loved Batman AND Robin. I'm guessing it was in part because of the Batman and Super Friends cartoons.

For Mego Robin I want to collect every package variation of Robin there is. I know I won't (can you say solid box and Kresge RM) but I have fun trying.

I was only character specific when it came to comics. It was Ghost Rider and only that.As for toys I think its more price driven. If I like it and it reasonable its fair game.

I'm not really a collector, but I love to work on anything Planet of the Apes related.

I don't focaus on any one chacter as my 100 plus differnt vintage 8 inch MEGO collection shows but i do have my favs like BATMAN and ROBIN which i have MOC loose and variants of each like RC, PC, fist fighters BATMAN RM.PM ,fist fighter ROBIN but i buy a lot of other MEGOs BATMAN and ROBIN was one of the few i went on a special hunt to have the differnt versions. But there are and i know a few who collect anything BATMAN or SPIDERMAN but they don't tend to be MEGO maniacs like most of us here they are BAT maniacs or SPIDY manaics and they have a MEGO in there collection because it's SPIDERMAN and i say more power to em for that is what makes them happy and wasn't that what MEGO's purpose to start with?

Maybe for some it helps put an attainable goal or limit on the collection. For example if you wanted only Marvel Mego Figures, or DC. or WGHS only, whatever. Mostly it's probably a fondness for a particular character or line.

I've always enjoyed comics and super-hero related media. Spidey does happen to be my favorite and so it was natural to continue move in that direction. I'm interested in most vintage toys, but obsessed with anything spider-man related. I'm not opposed to collecting memorabilia related to other characters or themes, I just don't right now.

I cant explain my fascination with the 2 particular characters I collect except for the fact that I love them and want as many versions of them that I can get my hands on ! I think it started with my comics...I had a favorite as I'm sure we all did and do , and then just took it to a different medium. For me it's Spidey for Marvel and Batman for D.C. They are just my faves....and I like the stuff that is out there for them !

Actualy Aquaman has a pretty big amount of differnt toys by a few toy companies granted his MEGO stuff is few and a MOC has a big price tag as does the shark but if you only collect Aquaman the price tag shouldn't be to much a problem as you could save money each month till the rare item appears

I collect a few different items. I have Gabriel Lone Ranger stuff, I have lots of mego stuff, and I have a huge collection of Minimates from all different lines.

On top of all this, I have a massive collection of everything Hulk. I love the green guy and always have. If it is Hulk related and released between 1962 and 2009, i either have it, want it, or its pre-ordered. I have lots of Hulk prototypes and even the massive Sideshow Premium Format Hulk thats in your avatar clemso.

I stray into other stuff, but my Hulk collection never decreases and I never get bored with it.

I like anything Superman but I stopped buying a lot of the recent items since it's kinda crappy quality stuff and I'm not really into new toys.
