Scale difference between Lone Ranger & Mego

Whats the scale difference like between the Gabriel Lone Ranger and a Mego.
Anybody got a side by side comparison pick. Same with Silver and a Pota Stallion, if you have one.

Don't know the exact scale, but LR is definitely bigger. Closer to Big Jim, which I believe is 1:7-1:8 scale. LR is closer to 1:7, while Mego is a solid 1:9. The POTA stallion is definitely a bit small for LR and Tonto.

I don't have the LR figures anymore to take a side by side pic, but they are more 10" scale. The horses are quite a bit bigger than Mego.

If an 8" Mego is 1:9 scale and a 12" Gi Joe/Action Man is 1:6 scale my reckoning would be 1:7.5 scale based on a 10" figure roughly between the other two.

Lone ranger is about 1/4" taller than the Flash Gordon Series figures. Silver would be more in scale with them.

Thank you so much for taking the trouble for those great shots Kat. I love the Lone Ranger, its a shame Mego never made him. There is quite a scale difference, more than i thought. I think their horses were so much better and was wondering if a Mego wouldn't look out of place sitting on one, scale wise.

I agree with you Clem, I thought that was what you had in mind, and the thought had crossed my mind in the past. That's why I thought it was best to show you, sadly it just wouldn't work...

Wow Cat, they are some beautiful LR horse and rider combos, thanks for posting the pic.

They were some lovingly made toys.

                          Cheers!

                            Guys,

                            just FYI...

8 inch MEGOs are NOT 1:9 scale. They are exactly 1:9.5 scale. That means that an 8 inch tall MEGO hero is meant to represent a real-life (dressed) hero standing approximately 6 feet four inches tall (76 inches).

This works out perfectly because SUPERMAN is 6 feet 4 inches tall. And THE BATMAN is about that same height after his boots and cowl.

Now, I stressed the "dressed" part because MEGOs only stand a full 8 inches when they are dressed and wearing footwear.

Nude 8 inch MEGO heroes stand at 7.75 inches.

At 1:9.5 scale, that translates to a real-life man of just a shade under 6 feet 2 inches.

If you were to try to apply a 1:9 scale to MEGOs, it would just fall short.

A dressed 8 inch MEGO only becomes a 6 foot tall real-life man.
And a nude 7.75 inch MEGO only becomes a real-life man that stands a shade under 5 foot 10 inches.

Now I admit, that some of this stuff is a bit subjective. After all, who's to say the 1:9 inch scale isn't correct if MEGO wasn't scaling for slightly shorter chacarters than Superman or Batman... someone like, say, Spiderman (who stands under 6 feet in height)?

Well, my answer to that is that I'm basing my assertion of a 1:9.5 scale on the fact that MEGO made Superman and Batman FIRST as part of their World's Greatest Super Heroes line. Therefore, those character's real-life heights determine the scale of MEGO 8 inch tall figures.

It is for this reason that SO many of the other MEGO Super Hero characters are wildly out of scale when compared to Superman and/or The Batman:

Robin, Spiderman, The Penguin, The Green Goblin, The Lizard, The Human Torch, Aquaman, Mr. Myxzlptlk, The Riddler... NONE of these characters stand at 6 feet 4 inches tall.

As 8 inch tall action figures of a 1:9.5 scale, they are far too tall.

The same could be said of other characters in the line:

The Hulk and The Thing are both far too SHORT as 8 inch scale action figures of a 1:9.5 scale. The Hulk supposedly stands 7 feet tall.

And the women of the line are based on an 8 inch tall female body that is so awkward, lanky, and decidedly un-female in its appearance that it ought to be crime.

Every 8 inch female of MEGO's WGSH line represents a 6 foot 4 inch tall real-life woman with a giant head, big hair, and an un-gainly boy-like body with breasts.

Anyway, so there you have it. 8 inch MEGOS = 1:9.5 scale... kinda.
I... am an action figure customizer
