Which Megos Look the Most Authentic?

I don't think MEGO cared if Iron Man had a nose or not - they wanted
a more kid friendly face than the comics showed - and to show that
it was not a robot, but a man inside.

You're right, Doc. If they were willing to re-do a head sculpt because of an "evil smirk", then nose-less, hidden eyes, creepy guy behind iron mask probably wouldn't fly.

I'd love to see a pic of how Iron Man would look with the shaved off nose and darkened eyes & mouth. I also remember reading (a long time ago) about a member taking a thin sharpie to his Spidey and filling in the webbing on his head.

Iron Nose

I shaved off Iron Man's nose and painted the eyes and mouth black,
showed it to my wife and she said - "He looks really mean."

Of course when I was a kid, I remember coloring IM's eyes black.
The nose didn't bother me that much.

the knights are pretty well done too.

Ivanhoe is the best one...quite a handsome fella too...lol.

The worst is the Black Knight...I always hated that tiny head of his.


By far the best 8 inch Superheroine figure is the Invisible Girl...at least in the realistic department...all the other ones are too cartoony-looking.

I remember as a kid, I had Cap and loved him (gotta love the shield). I remember noticing the uniform differences you mentioned, but I always just pretended like the superheroes just had a few different uniforms, some of them with slight variations.

That's a cool thought, I wish I would have focused on as a kid.. I was GREATLY disappointed in Cap when I first saw him..!! Not so much the costume, but the expression. Spiderman was much better.

Jeez, I forgot about the Titans.., yes, Kid Flash was 'dead-on'..

Speedy? Excellent head sculpt, but costume could have been more accurate. Still turned out nice.

I think the Flash Gordon line is the most accurate. Incredible details and accessories.

Gotta agree with megoapesnut; that line is amazing, especially Ming.

Fonzie and the Trek figures are dead on, I agree Uhura looks very generic. As far as cheez, I would have to throw in Mugato, Gorn, and the Talosian Clown suit even though the Talosian's head is very impressive. Other cheez mentions would have to be the 12 inch Black Hole figures Giant heads.

Star Trek ALL the way! Not only did they capture their likeness's...but their personalities as well. And that is a sign of a truly GREAT Sculptor.

I know! Right? The Waltons are scary accurate... I always look at Johnboy and think to myself, "damn... why weren't you in a cooler cult show I could use this head as a custom for? All I got now is the "The CBS Festival of Lively Arts for Young People" Show Host custom I've had planned for so long"

Of course then again for all I know so are OMBC.

I always thought Trek had it for personality but not really likeness. They reminded me of cartoon/live action hybrid, which was really cool. Then I actually picked up a few Space: 1999 figures and ... Alan Carter and Morrow like woah! That's a well-sculpted line.
S&H is good but a little exaggerated. Not like CHiPs, but still.

Most accurate (8 inch line):

Green Arrow - As far as face sculpt and detail he's hard to beat.

Tin Man - The actor likeness is uncanny.

Green Goblin - I think that face sculpt is a dead on likeness to the early Steve Ditko renderings. There hasn't been ANY mego-like figure to even approach a remote likeness to the comics since (which has always puzzled me a bit).

Most inaccurate (8 inch line):

The Lizard - Whatever the sculptor was smoking made him blind as well. THAT'S a lizard? Really? And if that expression doesn't scream "stoned", I don't know what does.

Iron Man - Nose or no nose, there's too much facial expression here. And since when did he ever have ears like that? I agree with the theories that this sculpt was probably originally intended to be Doctor Doom (and then got slightly altered before going into production). Sad too since this figure has the coolest gloves, belt and boots in the entire line.

Hutch - I love the series and I think they did a descent job on Starsky, but the likeness on Hutch is just way off. And why didn't they just give him a Fonzie jacket or a pseudo-leather vest (like they did overseas) instead of that p*ss-colored fuzz vest? I never got that either.

I think the Star Trek The Motion Picture line is probably one of the most accurate lines. The 12" just seem very very close to me.
