    custom parts scavage

I know this may need to be in another Forum Section, but I was wondering if anyone has take original Mego parts, (gloves, boots, belts, etc...) off a finish custom they had done when a good repo part has been made available

Stabilio is the king of this. He wont use a repro part unless it's a unique part that Mego never made. He'll strip a pair of original Robin Hood boots off an original figure in a heartbeat if a custom needs it. He's a purist, even when it comes to customs.

I have to admit i'm a bit of a snob as well. First chance i had to put real boots on my custom GL i did. And now I'm looking for some yellow boots for flash. And honestly the repo ones on there are perfectly fine. I can't even use the repo bodies and they are cool, if they weighed the same i might see different but for me a mego will only do.

It depends if i have the MEGO parts in the parts bin then i'll use them ie BATMAN boots or SUPERMAN boots or AJ boots but if not the i buy DOC MEGO repo parts but for bodies i prefer using MEGO bodies as the resin heads fit better and usually needs no filing down DOC really needs to make the neck holes a tad bigger

I prefer too use repro on my customs, leaving original Mego parts for original Mego figures.

I'll use whatever I can find. Original, repro or custom parts... it's all the same to me when making customs, I'll use whatever fits best or looks best or whatever I have in my parts box

Wow. I'm a purist too. Mostly. I'll make all repro customs some day, I'm sure of it - but I've swapped all of my emce figures over to original bodies. I've swapped my Star Raiders that have mego-available colored bodies over, and I buy bootleg mego-likes expressly to swap to vintage. I've frankensteined body parts, like connecting a Hulk chest to a T2 waist set-up as on Hellboy, and made other modified body parts that I recast, but yeah - weight is an issue for me too. If repro bodies could be light like originals I'd find the transition easier.
It still bothers me that I can't make new head sculpts in squishy vinyl.
When I make a new bodysuit I sometimes even rack my brain to figure out if there's a way to harvest enough fabric from dicing up original mego outfits to make it all vintage fabric. I can't say how many green arrow/cap america suits I tried to get together to make a Martian Manhunter suit. I know. It's awful and a disease. I can get by with true lycra because it's heavy enough to look almost right, but it really bothers me to use swimsuit or something thinner weight on a custom for the shelf.
I even thought about popping the knee joints on the Emce Gorn so I could swap out the knee pins and thighs from a partial green goblin I had, and weighed the cost benefit in my head of having something weigh half-right. I didn't by the way. Yet.
I'm not ocd about everything, but when I pick something I guess I really do it up.

The weird thing? Sulu and Chekov both have their repro phasers. No problem with that at all. So I guess if it's factory produced and within the specifications of the originals that's really all I'm after.
