Alright, so Diamond Select Toys is remaking all of the Mego's...My Dad's theory is that no one will buy Mego's anymore considering we have these new figures...Is this true? I disagree...But what do you think?

Unlikely.
It may affect the prices of the original figures that are being copied but nobody will stop buying "real" Megos.
I'm not even interested in the copies but will likely pick up original figures such as Sulu, Chekov and the new Gorn at some point as well as any new original figures that the new Mego Corp might produce.

Yes, I can't see the repros affecting the original figure prices much, anymore than DC Archives is driving down the price of Golden Age comics. The repro sets of Robin Hood, the Knights, etc. hasn't affected the price much of the originals, and you can buy those repro sets pretty cheap.
I'd agree that some of the new figures never produced should sell better, but I'd think having new characters available would cause collectors to start seeking out the originals.Comment

I think they will fill a gap untill the real one can be found. They are nice, but not the real deal.Comment

I'm a purist, I have zero desire in the repro figures (except I may pick up a few for my son to play with) and will continue to buy vintage Megos. If repros affect the prices, that means I may not have to pay as much money as I otherwise would have for the figures I still need, and that's fine by me.Comment

I agree there is nothing like the original. But I like the EMCE line as well and have purchased them all (except NOLD) and will continue to do so. I have also gotten my son all the Trek and Apes EMCE did so that he can experience the love.
It's all good by me and whatever fits your budget, works.Comment

There aren't any EMCE reissues of the WGSH, so those are figures that will definitely be sought by collectors of those characters, people will be buying them...Comment

I think a large percentage of people who collect toys like this are doing it because they want to own the actual original toy that they had, or coveted, as a child. I like the originals of course, but also I enjoy some of the new remakes like the EMCEs as well. I think very few Mego collectors who grew up with the originals will be satisified with just having the EMCE versions only, other than in instances where it's just far too expensive for certain collectors to ever own the original version (like a carded Romulan or something). Even then, if I ever came across a really good deal on an original Romulan and I could afford it at the time, I'd certainly buy it. As cool as the new ones are, nothing beats the original.
When Mattel released the Commemorative Editions of the original Masters Of The Universe figures, I thought maybe the prices on the originals would drop. But so far I haven't seen much evidence of that. And now even some of those remakes are fetching some decent money!
I think those collectors who are willing to spend significant dollar amounts on Mego toys are serious enough about the hobby and too devoted to owning the originals to allow something like EMCEs to ever be considered a "suitable substitute" for having the real thing.Comment
