    Auction Honesty

If a Mego auction listing headline includes the words "Original" & "Complete",
would you expect it to be 100% Complete and 100% Original?

Or would you feel it's right to say Original and Complete and then list the repro parts in the description?

More and more I see the phrase ..."All Original except..." and then a laundry list of repro parts that is essentially everything but the head, body and suit.

I see it all the time as well and it does bother me.If it says complete and original there should'nt be one repro part in there,I don't care if it's a freakin sticker decal

I would Rob. To me that means no repro parts at all. But you have to read all the fine print very closely now just to make sure.

I never like to mislead in an auction title --or a description for that matter.
It only leads to unsatisfied buyers --- which are a pain in the butt --- and they should be as I would be.

Too many people bid on auctions taking the title at face value and not reading the description.

This only leads to complaints, backcharges and negatives.

        It's just not worth it.

In today's market of reproduction items, I think the sellers are using the term Original to indicate that the figure is a Mego. Complete seems to indicate the parts. Although somewhat misleading, as long as the seller has been very clear in the description as to what is repro parts wise, then I'm generally OK with it. Its been that way for years now.

Annoying, somewhat, but its becoming rare to see complete Mego's anymore even with repro parts.

I was searching around for a minty type 1 Bats recently and I seemed to fall into that trap quite a bit. I can't say that I felt anyone was trying to scam, the figure itself was original but it would have repro gloves or boots, which would be clearly in the description. Kind of annoying but I wasn't out anything so who cares?

I did get irked at one auction that had little to no original parts, even the head was DM. I think to say "original" it should be 75% or more original parts.

              Brian,
how would you weigh the 75% - All parts being equal?

So for Batman, the 8 parts are body, head, outfit, boots, gloves, belt, cape & emblem - that means any 2 of those being repro should prohibit the use of the word original.

              It has my vote!

It's very annoying and gets me almost every time (which I think is the intention).
Says "complete" which to my mind's first thought is "original". Then they go on to list all the repro parts (as mentioned above).

After I wrote that, I realised I don't know how to qualify the percentage. I guess I personally wouldn't use "original" if it had more than boots/gloves that were repro.

However, if my figure was complete with no repro parts, I'd likely use "All Original"

I have got to the point where I don't even look at said auctions anymore. I feel they are been misleading on purpose.

                      Its misleading.

Yeah, if its in the body of the description then its not a crime against humanity or anything, but it just plain misleading. It just reinforces the need to read the description and really look at the picture.

I'm also less likely to gamble on an auction. Sometimes a fuzzy picture and low price might convince me to take a chance. I might get a real minty figure from someone who just didn't know how to use theior camera. Now, however, I worry too much that its being done to cover something not in the description.

There is a seller who's auction always end on sunday nights, who is a habitual offender of this~ He has great Feedback and he does disclose every mego part that is repro,(even to to the point where he describes "BATGIRLS Repro belt, in perfect condition with great shine" that always cracks me up) but it just makes me wonder why such a wonderful seller intentionally misleads titles~ I know I just skip his listings now, don't even bother to read. I would suspect most of his sales go to 1st time mego collectors who just don't know any better~ He is the best at selling up cleaned up Megos though~
And again for the record his descriptions are 100% honest~ His titles just lack class for a top notch seller~

Original and complete to me means 100% original, no repro parts. Sadly, most sellers on eBay disagree with me and have quite a lot of repro parts when they say "original"
