    Do You Appreciate Your Collection?

I was doing some dusting tonight in my toy room and got to thinking about how some of us after collecting whatever it is you collect) for many years can lose the appreciation for our collection and take what we have for granted. How when we first started collecting we would really enjoy each and every figure or item we got and after a few years that we enjoy the hunt and obtaining the figure or item but then once we have it how it's kind of put on a shelf or in a box and not appreciated as much. I think I go through this a lot until I do take the time to actually pick up each piece, look at it and think of how I got it. Then the appreciation returns.

No. I don't appreciate them as much as I need to. They are all a work in progress for me except for a few select pieces. I just love to customize and that's where the fun of it lies for me. I don't consider myself a collector. I am into the crafting.

Great Topic. I Love my Collection but I do take it for Granted. I have some Wonderful Pieces but there packed away. I really need to Display my Collection. All I have out are my Six Favorite MEGOs. I really need to get a display case and show them off. I'm not a person who procrastinates but for some reason I just have not done this. I think I'm going to go get my toys out and Enjoy them

I think we all do sometimes, not with the rare stuff but with the common figures.Like I find myself always looking at something rare and thinking yeah baby I'm so glad i have that. Then i look over and all the common figures are stuffed in boxes

It sounds funny, but I go into my toyroom every morning, (b/c my clothes closet is in there), and say hello to my toys. I like to play w/ them, look at them, but I don't dust them as often as I should. I really appreciate (and I'm very grateful to my older brother who owns this house) that I have such a room to display my toys in.

Sometimes I think it's more about the hunt anymore rather than the item. Nothing I enjoy more than a romp through the flea market on Sunday- this winter weather drives me insane!

But like Tim said, you have to get in there now & again and play with them, move 'em around, clean & dust them (don't feel bad HardyGirl, it looks like a few of my figures were released in grey & white not color!). Periodically I go through my stuff looking for the junk- a lot of times it was cool then, not so much now. I clear that out & start again. Of course, then a few years later I'll get re-interested and pick the stuff back up again!

Yeah, space is making it hard for me to enjoy my collection. I plan on getting a room in a house remodel or a new purchase sometime in the next 3-5 years.

Yeah, I have been neglecting mine lately and thinking about packing most of them up so I just appreciate a few at a time.

I love my collection, but most of it is still in boxes because my toyroom still looks like crap and needs tons of work because I can set up my collection the way it should be. Check Brians "sweet collection set up" thread for pics

                        Hey,
Y'all can do what I do - keep the entire collection in cardboard boxes for 10 years until you can finally get a space to display them!!
Seriously, since I cannot even look at the majority of my collection, living in the brown boxed that they do, most of the time I do not think about it. However, when I get a piece I have been looking for or complete a collection, the appreciation factor comes on big time. One day I will be able to display the entire thing - until then, I just have to continue to plan on how to set it up.

Mine went under appreciated until I built shelves for them. Now I can admire each figure daily. I enjoy rearraginging them from time to time. We even get play time with them every now and a gain. The figures feel most appreciated when I pull them off the shelf and remove some repro part and replace it with OEM parts.

I'm right with you Tim. It sits on the shelf, doing nothing and I start thinking "what kind of cash could I get for all this?" Then I start messing around with them, and it kind of comes back.

Displaying them and periodically changing up the display helps me remember the great toys I have. Sometimes I can get so fixated on which figures I DON"T have, that I forget al the cool stuff I am fortunate enough to own. I am far from a super collector, but I have a nice little stash I've been building.
