    Thoughts on graded Megos??

I recently aquired a graded MOC (mint on card) mego. I purchased it because I thought it was a good price and I like it. I've never had a graded card or figure and wondered what others thought about this strange concept. I guess on the one hand it assures (as much as possible) that the card is not a repro and has not been tampered with. On the other hand it detracts from it being displayed with the rest of my collection as they are not graded. I'm concidering opening the sealed container so it will fit with the rest of my stuff.

    What does everyone think?

Personally I think grading is a waste of money, but that's just me.
But once you have a graded figure I wouldn't open it up since Damian is right about them being worth more money. If you don't want it, sell it and get another one that's not graded

I have a Few Graded Figures that I acquired awhile back. I do prefer them not graded, but it's not that big of a deal to me. if I was you I would just keep it in it's case and buy some other cases to display your collection along side. You can find really good acrylic display cases on ebay

I think it's a dumb idea. I hate the grading of comic books and feel the same way about anything that's graded. It does add a premium, which to me is ridiculous. How can the same figure in the same exact condition be worth more just because somebody (and who decided this person or persons is qualified to decide condition anyway???) "graded" it?
It's all marketing. Of course if people buy it, someone will make it so obviously there's a market for them.
I personally would never buy one solely based on it being slabbed in plastic forever. If I happened to get one that just coincidentally was slabbed it would be just that...a coincidence.

I do not like graded figures, but I would not open one that already was.

I think you will find that this community is nearly 100% anti-grading.

There are no Mego experts at AFA. If you really get into this hobby and know your stuff, then why do you need some arbitrary grader to tell you what is authentic? Do your homework, and you will have no problem telling real from fake, especially with packaging. Packaging is a lot tougher IMO to reproduce close to original than some little plastic accessory. The real trick for a carded figure collector is to learn how to spot a reseal. Once you can do that, you are golden.

Great advise from a man that knows a lot about Megos.

What always gets me with graded Megos is the fact when one isn't in the greatest of shapes(such as the card has tears, knees have fallen off and so on),they seem to go for as much or more as stuff that's in better shape that's not graded. Could be me.

I have always disliked the grading thing and despise AFA, like someone said who the hell makes them experts? After reading this thread I am so glad that the senior members here feel likewise(well maybe not about hating AFA).
