I remember being really mad when I first saw this story on TVO, Doctor Who was Jon Pertwee and this new guy was a flake. I changed my tune down the road.

One of my favourites stories as well, the big rampage at the end is way too ambitious for their budget though.

The Junior Novel was my first exposure to Dr Who.

It was great finally seeing the Giant Robot on TV a few years later.

The most recent Christmas special had a Giant Cyberman stomping around.

In the grand Kaiju tradition, I imagine what a matchup between Giant Robot and Giant Cyberman would be like.

I'm almost positive Robot was the first Doctor Who story i'd ever seen, so to me Baker was the only Doctor Who at that time.
The only problem was the channel that ran it played it in parts - 1 per week on Saturday morning, so it was really a pain having to wait a month to see a 90 minute story.

I remember me and my buddy laughing our behinds off at the bad special effects -- especially the UNIT tank (which I found out later was an Action Man tank)

The lousy bluescreen work for the GIANT robot at the end really didn't effect us much because we were used to seeing bad blue-screens on Space Nuts and other Kroft shows.

Shortly after Robot, the channel stopped airing Doctor Who and I had to wait 'till PBS picked it up a few years later.

A VERY generous musuem member sent me this episode and I loved Tom Baker in it. Vintage!

I will say, however, there was a perspective shot that cracked me up. They used what was obviously a toy tank, but shot it very close to the camera. The robot was off in the distance to make the two look equal in size. It absolutely did not work

                    Question about the figure ......

Is it just a 9" Mego with all that stuff heaped on like the Tinman ?

Or is this figure's body unique ?

                        Hiya t1,

The Giant Robot is truly unique. The parts are all molded plastic attached together with a series of rubber bands. There are no human body parts whatsoever. The hands pinch together for grabbing and the ankles are jointed. The waist, hips, and shoulders have ball type pivot joints. But the best part is the head. That big old smiley pumpkin sits in a cradle of plastic and can rotate and pivot. Awesome. The 'just out of the box' shot on the info gallery is realllllly cool.

                        I love my Giant Robot.

thanks again for the Doctor who love this week
