OK but I'd buy one if you did.

Honestly when I get Bored with Megos, I take a break and focus on my Vintage Star Wars Line for a little while, or Shoguns. As soon as I see prices for Mazinga Missiles I come right back to mego, so I don't get all depressed.

I got burnt out badly about 4 years ago. I sold pretty much my entire collection. I still kick myself today trying to recover them, and in a condition I am satisfied with. Selling them is/was pure insanity. My therapist still dosent understand why I have cold sweats about my past collection at night. J/K LOL.

      It still bothers me though.

yeah good ol' burn out ... just keep what you have the love will come back ... really right now I have a bit of burn out ... I got so many things on my want list last year ... and WGSH that I need are a bit out of my price range, part of the reason I've started on Apes ... but for sure I've slowed down on my buying.

There's no rule that says you must buy Mego's on a regular basis or own Mego's in order to be a real Mego fan.

Hell, I know some people that don't own one single Mego, but when the subject comes up they can talk up a storm about the old days and their Mego's.

There is no such thing as Mego burnout.
Action Figure burnout maybe ... but not Mego burnout.

I think that would actually be more accurate. Take a break, or save up for one of those spendy ones you've been putting off.

I am on the Mego burnout rollercoaster. I've collected most of what I want, so don't have the energy of getting new toys in the mail all the time, so it's hard to keep up interest. My collecting goals now are for a few pieces that don't come around that often, so require more patience and more cash saving. That slows things down a bit. But just when I think I'm really burned out, something happens to recapture my interest. I think it's a pretty normal cycle for most people.

I had the burn out about the time I did my interview on eternalcollector.com and then another just about when I did my exhibit at the KSTT Museum. But with the Megomeet, it seemed to bounce me back and held me pretty steady. Plus, now I'm stuck behind a computer at nights on weekends and sometimes work slows and I just have to monitor business critical servers. I'd think since I pull 3 13's, and I have allot of free time otherwise, I'd keep away but my days off are Mon-Wed with kids and it is winter/ I've always been more interested in winter months for lack of anything better to do (like go to the lake, vacation or something). But when it gets too boring, I start checking other things of interest which are usually old coins or other types of antiques. I just recently joined the Custer Memorial Association to help keep some local history alive. But I recommend that if you sell anything, you at least keep one example. I can say that because I gear toward collecting multiples (mainly because of variations).

The best advice to give someone is Keep what ya got , and you'll come back to it. Happens to me with a lot . I agree its Not Mego burnout . Its definitely Action Figure burnout. I am currently on that break with my G.i.Joe 3.75" collection. Its been on hold 6 months at least. One of my biggest issues that lead to the burnout with Collecting is as Davemc pointed out .... the energy involved with buying these things. I am very particular about condition. Nothing burns me more than getting excited about a piece(s ) that looks or is described a certain way , and .....................you get it delivered and ......well ughhh, now I have to deal with the seller , company, person, etc. Sometimes it just takes too much energy.

                      Hmmmm....

I find with a lot of the stuff I collect there's one pinnacle piece that I HAVE to have, and I tend to collect obsessively until I get that one. Then it cools down a bit. With Megos I NEEDED a Conan. Prior to finding one I amassed as many figures as I could; all runs, all characters, tons of parts. After I got a Conan I eased off a lot, and now only look for the odd piece.

I got burned out when I did multiple things, but got rejuvenated when I stuck with one thing, namely Megos. I also enjoy getting stuff in the mail so I will often use searching ebay for good deals to flip as a hobby. It allows me to search around ebay and make purchases without having to worry about them piling up for a long period of time. I just build up 15-20 figures and post em on here for some newer members that might not have some of the more common figures. I make a couple of bucks for the effort and occasionally I hit a good auction with something I need or a nice rare piece I already have but can do well with. I still haven't gotten rid of a lot of the items I had before though. They're still sitting in totes in my Mom's garage. Someday I'll get rid of em. Guess I'm not that burned out yet.
It's not a doll it's an action figure.

I use the term MEGO burnout because last year i went on a tear and bought MEGOs like crazy bascialy if i needed it i went after it, I don't regrett buying em but lately my intrest is in the 8 inch STAR TREK and Garbiels 10 inch LONE RANGER line, So i've been rearranging my display area fousacing on STAR TREK and the LONE RANGER figures and playsets while the others are safely boxed away for safe keeping while i foucas on the other two lines

Since i don't have the means to trade i am very picky on what i have now. I'll collect gijoe for a while, then go back to starwars, then onto wrestling figures and always megos. It helps keep it fresh. Also keeps my fiancee off my back as she can't figure out exactly what i'm spending. heh heh

I go in Mego lulls. Mine never last long, though. The longer I go, though, the less things I want, so thre are many more breaks in between new figures.
