Would it have killed MEGO if

Even as a kid i loved MEGO's STAR TREK line but it always buged me that the phasers and other EQ was blue, Today i fixed it gloss black spray paint and gold model paint and behold the phaser looks a heck of a lot better as does his tricorder, My question is would it have killed MEGO if they molded those parts in black to start with then add a touch of gold paint? P.S the painted parts were DOC MEGO's repos

well One thing Black on black colors make it hard to see on the figure hence the contrast, IE against the pants and belt , also small Black items tend to get lost very quickey as the eye has a VIOD zone in the Rentia .
Plus it cost money to paint details on a Very small item.and do it nicely .

Hey At least Kirk got a phaser, they could gone the route of the Apes/AJ's M-16 , save tooling and given Kirk and the gang .45 caliber pistols.

The thing they might've done is mold them in black but I think, in the end, they wanted the accessories to stand out

It wouldn't have killed them but it wouldn't have improved sales any, Star Trek was huge.

Looking at my loose TreKs it's obvious they wanted them to stand out. I agree about black on black not working. Now if they had molded them in gray that would have worked. They'd still stand out against the black and look closer their tv counterparts.

Well remember when the star wars figures first came out and they had those crappy vinyl capes and the light sabers looked like birthday candles that shoved up into their arms? LOL
Not to mention they barely looked like them. Now the ones my kids have look like miniature real people with accessories that come off and light sabres with removable handles, etc.

Funny When i was a Kid, Myself and all my friends took the crappy sabers out and replaced them with Colored tooth pics they were longer and the colors were brighter. We would fight and if they broke no problems they would easily get replaced.....

Yeah, they had belts worn under the shirt with velcro sewn on. In the beginning they were orange, later they were black to blend with the pants.
