I know the packaging read for ages 3 and up, but do you think that hold true. I was thinking of starting to corrupt my nephew with a Spiderman. He (my nephew not Spiderman) has just turned 2. I'm not sure what dangers Spidey might present, but I want to be safe. I think Batman or another figure with tons of accessories might be an issue, but Spidey seems pretty safe. What do you think?

I don't think the Mego Spidey harm to age 0 and up. He don't have any accessories or weapons but the baby or child might be chewing the Spidey's hands then the plastic chips will breaking off and swallow it will be hazardous to children.Last edited by Mr Mego; Dec 3, '08, 1:16 PM.Comment

My daughter is 3 (she doesn't chew on anything) and she has Spiderman, Batman, Ironman, Hulk, Joker, Tarzan, Captain America and Superman...almost completely original...(repro Cap shield and IM and Batman parts)...and she takes great care of them..."Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn"
In the Southeast Pacific, lies the sunken city of R'Leyh. There lies C'thulhu waits to return to our world with the other Great Old Ones. A hideous creature of enormous size and alien power, it waits for it's time to return patiently. For it has all the time in the world while it waits for the stars.

really 2 year old should be fine with a mego spidey ... come on we all played with worse stuff as kids and never grew any extra arms or died
most of the stuff that caused issues were the paints ... and mego spidey only has a little tiny bit for his eyes ... plus most kids are more in danger from the paint on the walls in their rooms or other odds and ends than the paint on their toys from china ...
for the most part the changes made to plastics from then to now weren't as much safty issues as much as a cost cutting ... shoot look at the plastic pipes we get water from ... there are so many small dangers that we have survived all these years ... unless people plan on keeping their kids in glass bubbles ... I say let them have some fun
Wee, I say get that kid a nice Mego SpideyComment

I think 6, first grade is a good age. Being a teacher, I'm all about age appropriate. I'm not lumping all kids together, but in most cases, kids under 6 chew on things, swing the figures by the limbs, lose the clothes and accessories, and of course, lose the figures. Some toy companies do make preschool versions of superhero toys, and then later, they can graduate to Megos."Do you believe, you believe in magic?

Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic

My son was playing with real Megos from about age 2. I was careful with figures that had small accessories at that point though. Spidy and Hulk were good though. He loved them at that age. He was a BIG Mego kid until about age 7, then he shifted to Star Wars and now Legos.
Kids seem to advance past action figures earlier than we did, so you don't want to hold off TOO long.Comment

we are told by the fear mongers today that our kids will become brain damaged or die from toys that we ourselves played with. are any of you brain damaged or dead from the toys you played with?
there are 3 million choking hazards in your house - if one comes with a toy you can remove it easier than all of the items in the house.
i'm not saying it is good for kids to play with lead or small objects. just that we can't live in fear. if you don't feel comfortable giving your kid a toy - then it is not age appropriate.Last edited by Brue; Dec 3, '08, 6:35 PM.Comment
