Has anyone seen this strange old Mego Super Hero commercial?
YouTube - World's Greatest Superheroes Get Together
It's kind of cool in how it presents all of the super heroes together, but it's loaded with misinformation!
It says that The Human Torch is "faster than the speed of light." (Could they possibly be confusing him with the Flash?)
It describes the Green Arrow as "Hero Of The Forest." (Robin Hood, maybe?)
It includes Cat Woman as one of the "Super Gal" heroes. (I know in modern times, she has sometimes been portrayed as a character who borders on good and evil, but this commercial was from the 70's).
And worst of all, it says that Mr. Fantastic has "the power of invisibility" like the Invisible Girl!
In fact, even the way they show the Invisible Girl appearing and disappearing with Mr. Fantastic could be a bit misleading to kids as to what these action figures can actually do. It seems like it would run into the same problem as the ads where Mego figures were animated, implying that they could move!
Now, how you accurately describe the Mego Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Girl is a good question in itself. Since neither figure represented their powers in any way, it would have probably been better to describe the Invisible Girl as an "elusive crime fighter" and Mr. Fantastic as a "brilliant leader."
Even when they are accurate, they describe a lot of the characters in curious ways.
Still, you have to love this wacky Mego advertisement from yesteryear!
