Toy maker grows into a giant on Hollywood, comic motifs

"He is now bringing out toy figures based on the popular TV series "The Waltons." He expects they will do as well as the "Planet of the Apes" line, which had $10 million in sales "

Hey, you can't win them all....

The article mentions the Green Hornet. Was that ever in the plans or was that just a newspaper mis-quote?
    It's all good!

I've been wondering that myself, I'm going to say misquote seeing as Mego had released the Green Arrow this year and as I'll point out in Decemeber, some people really had trouble with that name.

It's actually an AP newswire piece that ran across the country in 1975, it was published at least in 25 different papers.

OK, I know CBS had their own toy division, Quaker Oats was operating the late great Marx Toys at the time, and General Mills had just bought Kenner....but who did Nabisco own?

Wonder if Mego had attempted to get the action figure rights for Evel Knievel at the time, and lost out to Ideal?

I'd go with that. Can't tell you how many people have seen my Green Arrow and either called him Green Hornet or Green Lantern.

Doesn't mention the Star Trek line though :(
Capt. Kirk: "Is there anyone on this ship, who even remotely, looks like Satan?"
Mr. Spock: "I am not aware of anyone who fits that description, Captain"
Capt. Kirk: "No, Mr. Spock, I didn't think you would be"
