    Mego Collection

    Hi everyone,

I've been a serious toy collector for some time now, but I've only recently got into collecting Megos (although I've wanted to for some time). My main interests right now are Action Jackson figures, but I do love many of the Super Hero Megos, especially The Thing, the rest of the Fantastic Four, the Hulk, and Spider-man.

    Be talking to everyone soon.

    Happy Thanksgiving

    G.B.

Well, I am fascinated by many of the Mego Super Hero figures too. The Thing has always been my favorite Marvel character and, for all the "realistic" Ben Grimm action figures that they've made through the years, the minimalist Mego one from my childhood will always seem like the definitive Thing action figure to me.

I find the Mr. Fantastic Mego particularly interesting. Very well made and detailed, but absolutely no homage to his stretching power. But then again, the power to stretch is not easy to replicate in an action figure and a child's imagination can be more effective than any gimmick or gadgetry.

Spider-Man and the Hulk seem to be the definitive Mego Super Hero figures (they were certainly the ones I saw most in the stores). I can easily get past the height issue of the Hulk (and the Thing). Comic book art is comic book art and action figures are action figures and I don't think they have to always look exactly the same.

        Anyway, it's all great!

                Thanks for the welcome, everyone.

Most of the other toys that I've collected have been from earlier years in my childhood such as Fisher Price Little People, Mr. Potato Head, Weebles, vintage Sesame Street puppets, and Colorform sets. I've also been interested in Aurora prehistoric models kits, plastic toy soldiers, Fisher Price Husky Helpers, and Adventure People.

I really wanted to begin collecting Megos earlier, but last year I bought a supposedly mint Mego Thing on eBay and his leg fell right off. My firend tried to fix it for me, but it broke once again. I was discouraged and my plans to build an extensive Mego collection came to a screeching halt. Now, the quality Action Jacksons I'm accumulating are restoring my enthusiasm. Yet, I realize that Megos do wear over time, so breakage is often common, and repair is all part of being a Mego collector. I need to either become proficient in Mego repair or find a place where I can send my Megos for repair when needed.

Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

                Have a great day.
