Repairing Star Trek Phaser 2 game - buzzer

    Hello everyone,

I don't know if I'm in the right forum (my first post). I have a Phaser 2 game which works except for the buzzer. I have tested it in complete darkness as well as subdued lighting - the phaser shoots its light, hits the target but no buzzer.

Can I repair this myself? I have replaced the batteries so that's not it.

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Albert

Well, I can't help you with your problem but I can say welcome to the Museum and I hope you find it as fun & rewarding as I have.
I'm sure there's no problem with you posting it in this room but normally a question like this would go in Mego Fact. You'll probably get more views in Buzz though.
Could be something as simple as a loose wire but may be hard to diagnose without a hands-on exam unless this is something common with them.
    Enjoy
    Rich

      Thank you

A possible. loose wire is indeed an option. However, I will hold off opening it up until I have some more feedback as I don't want to put so much stress on a 30+ year old item which is working well otherwise.

Thank you for replying to my post

Hello there. I was just writing to say mine did not work correctly when i was a kid...same problem...no buzzer.....and the one i have now is in mint condition and the buzzer does not work either. I seem to recall reading somewhere this was a common problem which could be the reason when i was a kid the store that had them marked them down to 4.99 in order to get rid of them.

Also and this just could just be me but i think the reason these are somewhat collectible these days is more for the great looking box than anything.

Mine seems to have the opposite problem, every time I push the trigger the buzzer goes off regardless if it is on target or not. No idea how to fix it.

If you guys could just get your two phasers together...

The buzzer on mine does not work either.

                There's an idea

Maybe opening your phaser and photographing how it's connected up would serve as a guide to fixing them???

Another possibility, does anyone know anyone at megomuseum who remembers/worked on this game and can be contacted for help?

Hi and welcome! I haven't really tried to use mine since the 70's. My problem is that the on/off switch is broken. I've thought about trying to open it up and look inside, but I am afraid of the plastic snapping when I try it and I'd rather have an intact even though not working piece. I don't know how Mego set it up, but the electronics of it seems simple to me a photocell attached to a buzzer that "flips" on the buzzer when it sees light. If you do open it up and it is easy to see the wires I would check the circuit to the cell first. Shine light on it and if the meter responds then you would know it is not a burned out photocell and can look for other connection problems.
                  It's all good!

Put a firecracker in it and run.
Oh, sorry, having childhood flashbacks of friends destroying their toys (and me helping them, hehehe).

just tried mine the other day.....light barely goes on
buzzer works only when i twist the on/off knob back and forth
annoying buzzer sound...you really don't want it to work!
                      i want to sell mine!!
