The Black Knight finally gets an audience with Mego King Arthurand all is made right again. THis card was sponsored by Thomas Meuleman and Dave "Aussie Mego Man".
Thanks to all our sponsors and of course to Scott for making this week of Knights happen and be so darn cool.
Nice work Scott, as always. Nice way to show the head sculpts. What a way to end the week. Can't wait for these and the rest of the Western series to start making the rounds.
Guess it's time to update the trading card page now.
sigpic WANTED: Boxed, Carded and Kresge Carded WGSH
Those little details really make these great. Thanks for your hard work. I can't wait to get em.
"Steel-like jaws clacked away, each bite slashing flesh from my body - I used my knife and my hands, and when they were gone, my bloody stumps - and yet the turtles came."
Yeah, I was pondering how to handle the faces vs, helmets issue, the helmets are too cool, but the faces are good too. When this idea came to me it gave it a whole story where the rogue Black Knight battles all of them and finally joins the Round Table, a good guy after all, just misunderstood.
When BK was fighting and burning castles on the previous cards, he was already a "Knight".
Actually, in the tales and song the Black Knight was, in most cases, dubbed by another King. Arthur followed his own father, Uther Pendragon as King of Britain, and Arthur's confirmation as King by pulling Excalibur from the anvil / stone was not universally accepted, even though the majority accepted him. He therefore had to spend time reclaiming those British lands from his Black Knights before he could claim Kingship Undivided, and go off to conquer France, Rome, Ireland, or wherever.
The storytelling of these cards is just outstanding. It flows like an MGM film from back in the day - A Black Villian, Shining Heroes, Colorful costumes, various armed combat scenes, "the Right" made victorious, and a final scene in the throne room with the Villian redeemed and accepted back into fellowship of the Table Round. I can practically hear the swelling of the symphony as the words "The End" appear in gothic script.
Also, major kudos to Scott for being able to take what I have long held to be the weakest desgined figure of the lot and make him look majestic. Look at the shine coming off that Crown! Take a bow, sir!
An old Irish Blessing - "May those who love us, love us; and if they do not love us, may God turn their hearts; and if He does not turn their hearts, may He turn their ankles, that we may know them by their limping"
Thanks, Flynne. These cards are pretty much for you. I love the knights, but it helped to know at least one person would completely geek out over them.
My only regret is that the card numbers don't match the story order, but I didn't know what I was going to do when I assigned them.
